THE Speedy Leeds Qualifier for the Speedy Services UK Open saw over 100 players competing for places at the televised finals in Bolton in June, with Danny Dutson, Mick Hayward and Steve Service winning through.
Local player Dutson, a 20-year-old bar worker from Morley in Leeds who also plays for Morley rugby union club, was one of the three qualifiers to come from the event.
"I'm so excited to be going to Bolton," said Dutson. "It just doesn't seem real at the moment that I'm going to be playing in such a huge tournament with some of the biggest names in the game."
Mick Hayward, a 33-year-old warehouse manager from Skipton, was the second qualifier in Leeds, and said: "It would be fantastic to draw up against one of the big names on the first night, but whatever happens, I'm pleased to have secured my place."
The third qualifying place went to Steve Service, a 38-year-old sports coach from Blackley in Manchester.
Service had only returned to playing darts last December following a five-year break and now plays in the the Moston and Blackley Log-End League, but scored an impressive 440 in the 15-dart challenge during the first phase of the event before winning his knockout leg of 701.
The Leeds Qualifier was the fourth of seven events being held by Speedy as they search for 32 amateurs who will compete in the Speedy Services UK Open in Bolton from June 7-10.
Qualifiers have already been played in Brighton, Dartford and Inverness, and they continue in Stoke on Friday (April 13) and Cardiff on April 19 before Speedy stage an employees-only event in Haydock on May 4.
