Hopp Heads Dusseldorf Qualifiers

PDC UNICORN World Youth Champion Max Hopp was amongst the five Host Nation Qualifiers for the HappyBet European Darts Open on Thursday night, while Holger Rettig won through to make his European Tour debut in Dusseldorf.

Idstein's Hopp, who turns 20 next month, has already reached one European Tour quarter-final in 2016, in Hamburg two months ago, and he secured his spot in this weekend's £115,000 event at the Maritim Hotel with wins over Marvin Esser, Jochen Graudenz and Mario Masurka.

Hopp now meets Andy Boulton in Friday's first round, with Fabian Herz having edged out both Maik Langendorf and Kevin Munch as he qualified to face Greece's John Michael in the main event.

Martin Schindler followed up two whitewash wins with a narrow 6-5 defeat of Marcel Hausotter as he qualified for a first round tie with Finland's Kim Viljanen.

Stefan Stoyke will make his fourth European Tour appearance when he plays Mark Frost in the first round on Friday, after defeating Kevin Knopf, Alexander Tauber and Sascha Oeltze to qualify.

Holger Rettig, who previously played in PDC events in Germany in 2008 and 2009, will make his European Tour debut against Steve West after winning through the Host Nation Qualifier by defeating Rene Eidams, Michael Doeppling and Markus Floh.
