RYAN HARRINGTON won an all-Essex final against Steve Haggerty to win the third PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event, held at Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre on Saturday.
Harrington, the son of former world number one, claimed his first professional title with the 4-2 win, as well as taking the £600 first prize as he followed up his run to the semi-finals of the second event a fortnight ago by going all the way in Wigan.
He dropped only three legs in as many matches early in the competition before overcoming Chris Aubrey 3-2 in the last 16.
Harrington, 20, also defeated Holland's Pascal van Mourik in five legs in the quarter-finals and was a 4-3 winner in the semi-finals against Paul Barham, a 21-year-old from Basildon in Essex.
Harrington then faced another Essex hopeful, 20-year-old Haggerty, in the final, with both players hailing from the village of Boreham.
Haggerty took the early lead thanks to double 16 but was punished for missed doubles in the next two as Harrington hit double top at the first attempt in successive legs to lead 2-1.
Harrington hit a 180 in the fourth before landing double two for a two-leg lead, although that was cut when Haggerty stepped in after four missed match darts to land double six and stay in the game.
Harrington, though, was first to a finish in the sixth leg, and coolly took out 94 in two darts for a 14-dart leg and victory.
"I'm really happy," said Harrington. "It was hard in the last two games playing two of my best mates but I tried to relax and not focus on that too much - it was a lot harder than playing people I don't know because you know each other so well.
"It's very hard but I relaxed and it paid off in the end."
Harrington competed in the PDC's Qualifying School this year and has also competed in three weekends so far on the PDC ProTour, while his success so far on the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour means he is almost certain to qualify by right for the World Youth Championship later this year.
"It's been a great experience so far," said Harrington. "Playing the tour events has made me mentally stronger, and I've found a good dart that I'm happy with and a good rhythm.
"I hope I can take this success into the ProTour events now. This year I was hoping go get plenty of experience and maybe to break even with my costs - but I'm already up!
"I didn't expect to be winning so soon because knew it would be hard, and every game is a struggle."
He added: "It's great that my dad has seen me throw some good darts and win a title. He won a lot of titles in his career but it's one down, and about 50 titles to go to catch him up!"
Haggerty's run to the final saw him follow up a quarter-final appearance in the second event a fortnight ago, and included whitewash wins against Dan Elcock and Sam Rickhuss early on and a 4-2 win over David Pallett in the semis.
Barham completed an Essex trio in the semi-finals, having reached the last 16 in Barnsley, while Pallett, a 20-year-old from Newport in Shropshire, overcame Michael van Gerwen in his run to the last four.
Event two winner Shaun Griffiths reached the last 16 before losing to Johnathan Mulley, while Michael Smith, who had hit a nine-dart finish in Barnsley, defeated Under-21 World Champion Arron Monk 3-2 in round one before losing to Marc Evans - the son of Welsh professional Steve.
The fourth PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event will be played in a fortnight at The K2 Centre in Crawley, with entry costing £25 still being taken through the PDC Head Office on 08712 501 180 between office hours until 5pm on Friday March 25.
