THE 2010 StanJames.com World Matchplay is set to be the biggest in the event's history next month in Blackpool.
The nine-day event, screened live by Sky Sports from July 17-25, will see 32 stars battling to take the £100,000 first prize in the Winter Gardens' Empress Ballroom.
Ten-time World Matchplay champion Phil Taylor and former winners James Wade and Colin Lloyd will be amongst the PDC's top 16 players who qualify by right for the event.
They are joined by the 16 best non-qualified players from the Players Championship Order of Merit - with the three events to be held in Las Vegas next week being the last before the qualifiers are confirmed.
At present, Simon Whitlock, Paul Nicholson, Steve Brown, Mark Webster and Jelle Klaasen are all in line to make their World Matchplay debuts - but Nigel Heydon and Justin Pipe all sit within reach of the 16 qualifying places, alongside 2009 qualifier Peter Wright.
The Players Championships held on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in the New Tropicana World Series of Darts Festival will be the three final tournaments to count towards the Players Championship Order of Merit qualifiers for Blackpool - with the draw to be made on June 29 following the last event's completion.
While competition to win places in the World Matchplay has been fierce, box office records have also been smashed in Blackpool.
The decision to bring the opening night of the tournament forward to Saturday July 17 has proven a popular one, with all tickets now sold out for the first four matches.
Tickets for the evening session of the quarter-finals and the semi-finals have also sold out, and standing tickets only remain for the final, the afternoon session of the quarter-finals and the sessions on Sunday July 18 and Thursday July 22.
