Ana Aiming For Knock-Out Blow!

ANASTASIA DOBROMYSLOVA has been warming up for the Blue Square UK Open with a stint in boxer Amir Khan's gym.

The Russian star, 24, will make her second UK Open appearance on Thursday, having drawn Holsten Qualifier Andy Roberts in round one.

Her preparation for the event has included a visit to Bolton for a training session in the gym used by Olympic silver medallist Khan, where she sparred with his younger brother Haroon Khan.

"I've been practising a lot and been concentrating on the UK Open, but it was good fun to visit the gym," said the 24-year-old - currently the only female competing on the PDC circuit.

"I really enjoyed it, it was a brilliant experience. It's the first time I've stepped into a boxing ring.

"I used to kickbox, but I don't do that any more. It's good exercise because you have to be fit on stage under the lights.

"I really enjoyed it and will try to do as much fitness as I can now. It's important for all of us players."

Should she knock out Roberts, Dobromyslova would then face Steve Beaton in round two later that evening - having already included the former World Champion amongst her victims in the six months since she joined the PDC circuit.

"Of course, it's a much higher level," she added. "It's difficult but I'm really enjoying it and it's the next step in my career.

"I have already beaten Steve, so it would be a great opportunity for me to play him again, but I can't really think about my second game now because is Andy is a good player and I have to play him first."

The 2007 Women's World Champion and seven-time Russian champion, Dobromyslova has signed a sponsorship deal with darts manufacturers Unicorn ahead of the Blue Square UK Open.

She follows Raymond van Barneveld in joining the group of Unicorn-sponsored stars, which also includes Ladbrokes.com World Champion Phil Taylor and Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts winner James Wade.

Tickets are still available for the Blue Square UK Open, with prices starting at £10 via 0844 871 2932 or in person at the Reebok Stadium Box Office.
