Anderson Aiming For Glasgow Double

GARY ANDERSON is preparing for a night which could make or break his Betway Premier League season as he doubles up at The SSE Hydro against Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright on Thursday.

The reigning Premier League champion had been forced to miss the opening night of the season in Leeds through illness last month, meaning that Michael Smith competed twice at the First Direct Arena.

Anderson now plays his game in hand on Thursday against Lewis in a repeat of January's World Championship final, before returning to the stage to take on his Scottish World Cup team-mate Peter Wright.

After initially returning to action with two defeats, Anderson has won his last three matches and knows that

"If I can get two wins out of the two games, I'll be more than happy," said the world number two. "Even with one win out of the two I'd still be over the moon, but I've got to get a win.

"I'm going to go for it against Adie, and I'm definitely going to go for it against Peter."

The night in Glasgow will see the World Champion welcomed back to his homeland by a 10,000-strong crowd - and he admits that the experience of walking out in front of such support is a special occasion.

"I'm getting two games in Scotland and I'm looking forward to it," he adds. "Last year I think Glasgow was my first time playing after winning the World Championship for the first time, and I've never heard a noise like it.

"This year the first one was up in Aberdeen and it was the same again. It puts a lot more pressure on you because you want to win in front of your home crowd and play well, but I'm really looking forward to it."

Anderson received a further boost ahead of the night in Glasgow by signing a new contract with sponsors Unicorn, with whose bespoke darts he has won two World Championship titles and the 2015 Betway Premier League.

"After losing to Michael [van Gerwen] three years ago I went to the new ones and I've never looked back," said Anderson, reflecting on the 2014 World Championship, a tournament which sparked a change of form.

"They've got them bang on for me and I'm over the moon with them."

He added: "It is no coincidence that I have produced the best darts of my life since joining up with Unicorn in 2011. I have always received fantastic support. It is a family and I want to achieve a lot more for them as well.

"For me, this is the toughest era in the history of the sport. Add to that all the fantastic young players breaking through and you can see why it means so much to win two World Championships. It has never been harder to win big tournaments. It is a golden era for darts."

Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy added: "That Gary should put together back-to-back World titles is testament to this 'Great Scot'.

"An on-form Gary Anderson is an unstoppable force of nature on the oche and we are thrilled the partnership with Unicorn has been so fruitful."
