Sky Bet World Grand Prix First Round
STEVE BEATON won the opening game of the 2005 Sky Bet World Grand Prix with a superb 2-0 victory over John Part.
Beaton has had little success since reaching the semi-finals of last year's World Grand Prix.
But he showed no nerves in the best-of-three set first round to end Canadian star Part's hopes.
Beaton came from 2-1 down to take the first set, with a 13-dart leg levelling matters before he took advantage of Part missing 13 darts at the double to get started in the next.
Part took the opening leg of the second set, but Beaton showed fine finishing power to complete a quick-fire win.
"It's a very hard format in the first round," said Beaton.
"There were only a couple of legs where I didn't get off but once I got the first set out of the way I was flying."
