Thornton Chasing Further Glory

ROBERT THORNTON is aiming to add further silverware in 2016, as he prepares to kick off his year at the Unibet Masters this weekend.

Thornton takes on Dave Chisnall in the first round of the £200,000 Masters at ArenaMK in Milton Keynes on Saturday, in his first event since the William Hill World Championship.

The Scot has jumped back up to seventh in the PDC Order of Merit after winning the partypoker.com World Grand Prix in October, with his thrilling 5-4 win over Michael van Gerwen earning him the Televised Performance of the Year award.

Buoyed by that recognition, 2012 UK Open champion Thornton is aiming to claim further glory on the big stage this year - and believes that the Masters and Betway Premier League are ideal opportunities.

"Winning the World Grand Prix last year was my biggest achievement yet," he told his official website.

"I'm so proud that it was named Performance of the Year, but I know that I'm capable of playing like that all the time and that is my target for the next 12 months.

"The Premier League will help me do that and I'm over the moon to be back in it.

"First, though I've got the Masters to look forward to. Hopefully I can kick-start the year and I'll be there or thereabouts on the floor and in TV events."
