BRAZILIAN thrower Diogo Portela has secured a place in the William Hill World Darts Championship after winning the Central & South American Qualifier on Saturday.
Portela has emerged on the PDC circuit this year, making his European Tour debut and representing his country in the World Cup of Darts in June alongside Alexandre Sattin.
The pair came through to contest the final in the Central & South American Qualifier from a field including players from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana.
Former World Championship qualifier Sudesh Fitzgerald won through to the semi-finals before losing out to Portela.
The Brazilian then overcame Sattin 6-1, taking a 3-0 lead before his opponent got off the mark, but finishes of 75 and 107 helped Portela seal victory and his place at Alexandra Palace in December.
