JAMES WADE survived a scare after being forced to the first tie-break of the 2018/19 William Hill World Darts Championship by Japan's Seigo Asada.
Asada averaged 107 in the first set, which he won 3-1 with the aid of a 130 checkout.
Three-time PDC Asian Tour event winner Asada then took the first leg of the second set with a clinical kill of 104 but went on to miss a dart for the set, allowing Wade to step in and level the match.
Asada edged the third set 3-2 before Wade won the fourth 3-1 to force a decider.
After four legs in the final set were shared, Wade punished Asada for a missed opportunity to go ahead in the tie-break by cleaning up 86 to win the deciding set 4-2.
