THE 2007 Holsten Premier League Darts will be increased to include eight players and a bumper prize fund of £265,000.
Following two successful years of the event, the format will be expanded next year to 14 league nights involving one extra player.
The prize money for the tournament has been increased by almost £100,000 to £265,000, with the winner taking home £75,000.
The selection criteria will be as follows:
Top six players in the PDC World Rankings following the conclusion of the 2006 SkyBet World Grand Prix.
One Wildcard to be announced at the conclusion of the 2006 SkyBet World Grand Prix.
One Wildcard to be announced at the conclusion of the 2007 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
Phil Taylor has won both Premier League Darts titles, coming through the league phase of the two events unbeaten before winning the play-offs.
"The event has grown inside two years to being one of the biggest and most exciting in British sport," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"Wherever we went this year, we were the biggest show in town and every event was a sell-out, with many venues seeing tickets bought in record times.
"Next year we will be even bigger, in both the number of players vying for the title and the venues where the tournament will be held.
"This is further proof that the appeal of professional darts nationwide and globally is continuing to grow, and we would like to thank our sponsors Holsten and broadcast partners Sky Sports for helping to make this happen."
With six players from the World Rankings qualifying after the SkyBet World Grand Prix, the next 11 ranking tournaments will have added spice, with up to 20 players possibly able to occupy the top six places.
"There are over 150 ranking points on offer before the end of the World Grand Prix, so there is scope for so much change," added Hearn.
"Andy Jenkins, Dennis Priestley and Adrian Lewis have put themselves in excellent positions over the past 18 months with their displays, but you can look as far down the world rankings as number 20.
"Should players like Chris Mason, Wes Newton or James Wade have good runs in the forthcoming events, it is a great opportunity for them not only to break into the top ten but also win a spot in the Holsten Premier League Darts."
