(3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 2-3, 3-0)
MARK WEBSTER waltzed into the quarter-finals of the 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with an impressive 4-1 win over Kirk Shepherd.
The defeat for Shepherd sees him fall out of the top 32 after a disappointing couple of years since his superb run to World final in 2008.
The Welshman came out firing hitting a 180 with his first three darts. He hit a 117 checkout to complete a 12-dart finish to win the opening leg and then won the second in 13 darts.
Webster hit double six to win the first set before continuing his excellent start to the game by hitting the bullseye for an 88 checkout to take the first leg of the second.
Webster won the second leg against the darts, defying a maximum from his opponent and then hit double 10 to wrap up the set after Shepherd missed three chances at doubles.
Shepherd was made to pay for two missed darts at doubles 16 at the start of the third set as the former Lakeside champion converted a 100 checkout to win a 10th consecutive leg. Another break of throw saw the Welshman go 2-0 ahead and a 13 darter in the third leg put Webster 3-0 up to leave the former world finalist with a mountain to climb.
The first leg of the fourth set saw Shepherd finally open his account by hitting double 16. Webster levelled by landing double five but Shepherd led again by hitting double four after Webster was off-target with a dart at double top. Shepherd missed a dart at double 18 to win the set in the fourth leg and Webster managed to hit double two to go one leg away from the match. But the Birmingham based thrower kept his nerve and converted a two-dart 52 finish to take the fourth set.
Webster, who has taken out Mark Walsh and Peter Manley in this tournament, started the fifth set well by winning the first leg with a 96 finish and then extending his lead by hitting double top to win the second. And a 15-dart finish was recorded by the Welshman in the third leg to confirm a comfortable victory.
"I felt nervous before my last against Peter Manley but I felt much more comfortable today," said Webster. "I knew that if I won the first set that would really settle me down and I did that, unlike my last two matches.
"I was in a ruthless mood and wanted to win 12-0 in legs after winning the first three sets with ease. It's great to be still in the tournament and I want to keep the run going."

SIMON WHITLOCK 4-2 TERRY JENKINS
(3-1, 3-0, 2-3, 3-2, 2-3, 3-2)
SIMON WHITLOCK continued his excellent run at the 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 4-2 triumph over Terry Jenkins.
Jenkins became the third seed to fall victim of the Australian who ended the match with a 100 average and he will now take on James Wade or Andy Hamilton in the quarter-finals on New Year's Day.
Jenkins won the opening leg of the match before Whitlock replied with a two-dart 82 finish in the second. A 13-dart finish gave Whitlock a 2-1 lead and he hit his second maximum of the game in the process of winning the fourth leg to seal the first set.
Both players hit 180s at the start of the second set but it was Whitlock that won it with a 100 checkout. The Australian then won the next two legs to take the set and double his lead.
Whitlock kept up the winning run of legs by hitting double eight to win the first leg but Jenkins stopped the rot in the next leg by taking out 96 to win his first leg in eight. Jenkins then won the third leg which included his second maximum of the game. Whitlock won the next leg by hitting double four but Jenkins managed to win the deciding leg by hitting double six with his last dart to get into the match.
Whitlock made a winning start to the fourth set by hitting double 12 but missed two darts at double eight in the next leg which allowed Jenkins to level. The Australian lead for a second time but Jenkins converted an impressive two-dart 92 finish to force a deciding leg.
Whitlock, who has defeated Colin Osborne and Wayne Jones on the way to the third round, had the advantage of throw in that leg and he made it count by hitting a 61 finish to lead 3-1.
The opening three legs of the fifth set were all held with throw which gave Jenkins a 2-1 lead. An opportunity at double top for the set went begging and Whitlock hit double top to pinch the leg. That put the Australian a leg away from winning the match but the Herefordshire made no mistake in the decider by hitting a two-dart 80 finish to win the set and keep his hopes alive.
Whitlock began the sixth set with a two-dart 82 finish before Jenkins managed to out 66 to win the second, which included a fourth maximum of the game from Whitlock. The third leg saw both players fire in 180s but Jenkins won it against the darts to go 2-1 up. But Whitlock broke back immediately to win the fourth leg, and hit back-to-back maximums in the fifth leg to set up the chance of a nine-dart finish. The attempt at a seventh treble 20 fell just short but Whitlock went on to win the leg courtesy of a 69 finish to confirm an excellent victory.
"That was another tough match," said Whitlock, who now guarantees himself a cheque for £25,000. "Terry is a great player and I knew I had to bring out my best game to beat him.
"The money is great but to be a World Champion, would be awesome. I would like to play the circuit in 2010 and my goal is to try and get a Premier League place."

CO STOMPE 4-2 MARK DUDBRIDGE
(3-2, 2-3, 3-2, 3-0, 1-3, 3-2)
CO STOMPE reached the quarter-finals of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship for the second time in succession with a 4-2 victory over Mark Dudbridge.
Stompe backed up his superb win over Mervyn King in the last round with a three-dart average of 102.42 and will take on Mark Webster in the quarter-finals.
Stompe started well hitting double five for the first leg and then doubled his lead landing double top, to break throw. But the Dutchman missed several opportunities to wrap up the set over the course of the next two legs and Dudbridge stepped to win both and take the set to a deciding leg. Stompe, who produced a fabulous display to end the hopes of fifth seed, Mervyn King, in the last round, put those errors behind by winning the deciding leg which included his second maximum of the game to establish an early lead.
Dudbridge took the opening leg of the second set after Stompe suffered further problems on the doubles. Double top saw Stompe level but he fell behind again after Dudbridge hit double 10 to win the third. Stompe won the fourth leg by hitting double 10 and he also fired a 180 in the decider. But Dudbridge won the leg by hitting a pressure 56 finish to square the game, with his opponent poised on a two darter.
Stompe made an impressive start to the third set by taking the first two legs. But Dudbridge fought hard and won the two legs, by hitting double eight to win the third, and a two-dart 50 finish took the set to a deciding leg. The Dutchman won that leg by hitting double top to regain the lead, before recording checkouts of 132, followed by 116 to take the first two legs of the fourth set. He missed a dart at double top for another 116 finish but he returned to the oche to hit double 10, to go 3-1 ahead and go one set away from victory.
Stompe hit a maximum at the start of the fifth set and won the leg with a 65. But Dudbridge started to find some form with his finishing; converting a 104 to win the second leg, and two-dart 79 gave him the third. The Bristolian, who came through an epic seven-set encounter against Alan Tabern in the last 32, hit his third 180 of the game which was followed by an accurate attempt at double 10 to reduce the deficit.
The sixth set saw the Dutchman take the opening two legs with style. He hit a 13-dart finish to win the first, which was backed-up by a 120 checkout to go within touching distance of victory. Dudbridge hit an 11-dart finish to keep the match alive, before both players hit maximums in the fourth leg. But the Dutchman was first to a finish and he hit double top to seal a quarter-final place.
"The win against Mervyn was great, but this better," revealed Stompe. "He really fought hard and I'm pleased that I kept my form up throughout the game."
Stompe, who takes on Mark Webster in the quarter-finals added: "Me and Mark have had some great games in the past and I don't see this match being any different."

EVENING SEESION
RONNIE BAXTER 4-1 COLIN LLOYD
(3-2, 3-1, 3-2, 1-3, 3-1)
RONNIE BAXTER sealed a quarter-final place at the 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a convincing 4-1 win over Colin Lloyd.
The Blackpool thrower will now take on Raymond van Barneveld or Kevin Painter in the last eight - the first time he has reached this stage at the World Championships since 2002.
Baxter won the first leg of the match with a 64 finish but allowed Lloyd to level after missing a dart at double top. The Chelmsford man then broke throw in the third leg by hitting double 10 but he wasted three opportunities to win the set in the next and Baxter made Lloyd by hitting double top. The deciding leg was a tense affair that saw Lloyd miss another chance to win the set - double 15 for a 110 checkout, and Baxter hit double top to nick the set and open up an early lead.
Baxter won the first two legs of the second set and hit a maximum in the third leg but Lloyd won it by hitting a 94 finish. But Baxter won the fourth leg with an accomplished 80 checkout for a two sets lead.
Both players held their throws in the opening two legs of the third set before Lloyd, who came through a tough encounter with Denis Ovens in the previous round, converted an excellent 130 checkout to win the third against the darts. Baxter immediately broke-back to win the fourth leg and won the decider by hitting double 13 after Lloyd was guilty of missing two darts at doubles to win the set for himself.
That put the Lancastrian 3-0 ahead and in complete command of the game and he won the first leg of the fourth set with an 81 finish, before Lloyd hit back to win the second by recording an 82 checkout. Lloyd also won the third leg, capitalising on a missed dart at double top from his opponent. The deciding leg also went in Lloyd's favour as he hit a two-dart 74 to win the set and get into the game.
The Essex man hit a 14-dart finish at the beginning of the fifth set before Baxter set up a nine-dart finish after hitting a 180, followed by a 174. That left the seventh seed with 147 left and he successfully hit the treble 20, but was off-target with his attempt at treble 17. The magical nine darter was not to be but he won the leg in 10 darts which was followed by winning the next to go one leg away from the match. And the 48-year-old confirmed victory by hitting double top after Lloyd missed four chances to keep the match alive.
"I kept plodding along and never really had to get into top gear," said Baxter. "Colin can throw much better than that. He let me in many times and I kept taking my chances - which gave me the edge."

JAMES WADE 4-3 ANDY HAMILTON
(1-3, 3-0, 3-2, 0-3, 2-3, 3-0, 4-2)
JAMES WADE reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championships after coming through a nail-biting encounter against Andy Hamilton.
Hamilton had led 3-2 and missed a dart for the match in the deciding set which allowed James Wade to keep his hopes of World title glory alive and set up a clash with Simon Whitlock.
Hamilton started the better of the two players winning the first leg with the aid of the maximum. He hit another 180 in the second and landed double 10 to win the leg. The Stoke star missed two darts at double 15 for the set in the third leg which allowed Wade to get off the board. But Hamilton wrapped up the first set in style in the next leg by converting a 140 checkout.
Wade hit back quickly in the second set, winning it by three legs to nil to level the match. He won the first leg against the darts, the second by hitting double nine and then sealed the set in the third leg after Hamilton missed five darts at doubles to keep the set going.
Hamilton made a winning start to the third set, breaking throw with the help of his fourth 180 of the game. He was off-target with two darts at double 16 for a 2-0 lead and Wade hit double 10 to level. Wade then recorded an excellent 124 checkout to win the third leg but missed a dart at bullseye to win the set and Hamilton hit double five to force a deciding leg. The Aldershot man managed to take that with a pressure 65 finish with his opponent waiting on a two dart finish to lead for the first time in the match.
Both men struggled to find the winning double in the first leg of the fourth set, but Hamilton managed to find double four for an early advantage. The 14th seed then produced some fabulous darts to seal the set. He hit a 12 darter to win the second leg, and hit a maximum in the third followed by double 10 to square the game at two apiece.
Wade gained an early lead in the fifth set by hitting a two-dart 74 finish to win the first leg and that was followed by a break of throw in the second by hitting his favourite double 10. Hamilton defied a maximum from Wade to win the third leg and then won the fourth by hitting double eight after both players had registered 180s. And Hamilton continued the winning run of legs by hitting double 10 with his opponent waiting on 25 to regain the lead for the first time since the opening set.
The Premier League champion hit a 74 finish to win the first leg of the sixth set against the darts and soon won the second with 92. The third leg saw Wade hit a maximum to him in command and he hit double top to send the match into the decider.
Hamilton cashed in on three missed doubles from Wade by hitting a two-dart 64 to win the first leg. He was in control of the second but Wade produced a timely 129 checkout to get back into the set. The Stoke man regained the lead after Wade was off-target with more double opportunities to win the third leg. The fourth saw Hamilton have a dart for the match but his attempt at double for a 156 checkout fell below the target and Wade made his opponent pay by converting a 64 finish to send the game into a tie-break situation.
As the tension rose inside Alexandra Palace, Hamilton's game seemed to dip and Wade won the fifth leg by hitting double top with his last dart to lead for the first time in the set. The world number three then converted a wonderful 112 checkout to end a dramatic contest.
"Obviously I'm very glad that Andy missed that dart at double 18 to win the match," admitted Wade. "Sometimes its about winning ugly and fortunately I managed to do that.
"I don't feel that I ever found top gear out there and I know that I will need to up my performance if I am going to get past Simon Whitlock."

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD 4-1 KEVIN PAINTER
(3-1, 3-2, 3-2, 2-3, 3-0)
RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD maintained his quest for a sixth World title with a 4-1 victory over Kevin Painter in the final third round match of the 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
Painter, who reached the World final in 2004, never found his top in game in a disappointing performance which allowed Van Barneveld to set up a quarter-final clash against Ronnie Baxter.
The opening two legs of the match were comfortably held with throw before Van Barneveld won the third leg, courtesy of a 108 checkout. The Dutchman then won the fourth leg against the darts, hitting double 16 for the second time in succession to win the first set.
At the beginning of the second set Van Barneveld hit a 174 to put pressure on Painter. And the 15th seed succumbed by missing three darts at double 16 and the five-time World Champion hit the same bed at the first time of asking to take an early lead. Van Barneveld then won the second leg after Painter missed five more attempts at doubles. But the Daventry thrower fought back and won the third leg with a two-dart 94 and the fourth was won in 15-darts. A tense deciding leg saw Painter miss one dart at double 16 to level the game and Van Barneveld won the leg by hitting double eight to edge the set and go 2-0 ahead.
The Dutchman, who hit a nine-dart finish in his last match against Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan, won the opening leg of the third set by hitting double 10 before Painter levelled by converting an 82 finish. Van Barneveld won the third leg but Painter won the fourth to take the set to a deciding leg. Van Barneveld was the first to a double but wasted three darts at double 18. However, Painter was unable to set up a finish and the Dutchman returned to the oche to hit double 18 with his first dart to move 3-0 up.
Van Barneveld won the first two legs of the fourth set in clinical fashion courtesy of 65, and 105 checkouts. That put the Dutch star one leg away from the match but Painter hit back to win the next legs, which included a 100 finish in the fourth leg. Painter, who came through a seven-set encounter against Vincent van der Voort in the last 32, then stole the set in the deciding leg with an accurate attempt at double 18 to keep his hopes alive.
Van Barneveld appeared to become fatigued but he managed to put that behind him to establish a 2-0 lead in the fifth set - breaking throw in the second leg after Painter was guilty of missing more darts at doubles. That put Van Barneveld one leg away from the match again and this time he closed out the game by hitting double eight to end the game.
"I can't seem to produce my game on the stage at the moment," admitted Van Barneveld. "I became really tired in the fourth set but I managed to come through.
"Ronnie Baxter is a great dart player and he had chances to beat me here last year. So I know that I am going to have a tough game on my hands."
