Premier League 100 Club - James Wade

JAMES Wade will enter the Premier League 100 club tonight in Glasgow as he clocks up a century of appearances in the event.

Wade will become only the fourth player to achieve the feat when he takes on Adrian Lewis at the SSE Hydro this evening, with Phil Taylor (163), Raymond van Barneveld (142) and Lewis (111) the only other players on the list.

“It certainly doesn’t feel like a 100 games ago!” said Wade

“I only found out during the week that it was my 100th appearance but it’s obviously a great achievement and something that I am very proud of,” said Wade.

3. Double Nine-Dart Glory For Taylor In 2010 Final - Click on the image to watch the video.

James’ first choice may come as a surprise to some as he picks a moment of true sporting excellence from an opponent as his third favourite Premier League memory.

The Machine always seems to find himself in the thick of any nine-dart glory on the PDC circuit, having been involved in eight televised perfect legs during his career, but even Wade couldn’t have anticipated what was to come as he prepared to face Phil Taylor in the 2010 final at Wembley Arena.

Having lost his Premier League crown for the first time in the previous year, Taylor took back his title against Wade in extraordinary fashion as he hit two nine-dart finishes and came close to a third as he ran out a 10-8 winner.

Having already won the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and UK Open in his blossoming career, Wade added a fourth PDC major title to his CV in 2009 as he beat Mervyn King to take a first Premier League crown.

A 26-year-old Wade finished second in the final league table with 17 points having lost just twice during the season and then saw off Raymond van Barneveld 10-8 in the semi-finals and Mervyn King 13-8 in the final to become just the second player to lift the Premier League trophy.

1. Taylor Dominance Ended On Dream Debut - Click on the image to watch the video.

Since the Premier League’s introduction in 2005, Phil Taylor had enjoyed a sensational period of dominance in the event, winning the first three tournaments without losing a game in a 44-game unbeaten run.

However, a fresh-faced 25-year-old Wade - making his debut in the competition - was about to change all that as he inflicted The Power’s first Premier League defeat, winning 8-6 at the SECC in Glasgow on the opening night of the 2008 campaign.

Having started his Premier League career in such spectacular fashion in Scotland, Wade will now come full circle as he completes his 100th appearance in the same city, just next door to where it all began, at the SSE Hydro this evening.
