German Darts Masters Third Round

JAMES WADE ended Terry Jenkins' hopes of appearing in a second successive European Tour final with a 6-3 win over last month's Gibraltar Darts Trophy runner-up.

Despite a maximum from Jenkins in the opening leg, birthday boy Wade took out 135 on the bull to lead, and after the Ledbury ace levelled the left-hander took out a 13-darter, 121 on the bull, double ten and double five to move 5-1 up.

Jenkins fired in a 180 as he took the next two legs to threaten a comeback, but Wade landed tops to seal his place in the quarter-finals.

Adrian Lewis edged past Wes Newton in a deciding leg to move into the German Darts Masters quarter-finals, where he takes on Wade on Monday evening.

The pair shared the first two legs on tops before Newton finished double 14 for a 13-darter, with Lewis taking out 95 to reply only to see another 13-dart finish move the Fleetwood ace 3-2 up.

Lewis took out double four to level but missed the bull and two darts at double eight to break in the next as Newton held throw, and the cat-and-mouse continued through to a deciding leg, there the world number four defied a 180 from Newton to finish 80 to break throw and claim the win.

Brendan Dolan won through to the quarter-finals with a 6-3 win over Simon Whitlock, whose winning legs were 12, 12 and 11 darts in defeat.

Dolan defied a 180 from the Australian to finish 68 for a 14-darter in the opening leg, before finishing double four to break and another 68 finish to move 3-0.

Whitlock took out 84 and 114 to follow a pair of 180s as he pulled back to 3-2, but he missed tops to level as Dolan took out 84 to regain his cushion.

Whitlock replied with a 171 in an 11-darter but again missed his chance to level, with four darts at doubles, as Dolan took out double four to lead 5-3 and double 16 for the win.

John Henderson set up a quarter-final with Dolan courtesy of a clinical 6-0 whitewash of Andrew Gilding, averaging 102.48 and hitting six doubles from eight attempts.

Gilding landed a 180 in the opening leg only to miss tops as Henderson hit the same bed to lead, before the Scot posted a 180 and double ten to double his lead.

Two more double top finishes moved Henderson 4-0 up, double 16 extended the advantage and a 76 checkout secure the win.

Peter Wright ended the hopes of Scottish ace Jamie Bain with a super 6-3 win, averaging over 100 and hitting five 180s.

The pair traded 180s and 14-darters in the opening two legs before Wright scored 140, 180 and 170 in a 13-darter in leg three.

Bain levelled, after Wright twice burst his score on 28, but the world number five edged back in front on double one and then opened leg six with two 180s in a 12-darter.

Bain took out 121 to hit back, but Wright broke immediately to lead 5-3 before hitting a 180 in a 13-darter to secure his quarter-final spot.

Wright now takes on Robert Thornton, who impressed with six doubles from ten attempts as he overcame Austria's Mensur Suljovic 6-3.

After Suljovic took the opening leg with a double eight checkout, Thornton finished 78 to level and 95 to put himself ahead.

Suljovic levelled in leg four, but Thornton finished a 13-darter, double two and a 121 finish to move 5-2 up, and though the Austrian replied on double three, the Scot sealed victory in style with a 123 finish on the bull.

William O'Connor won through to his first European Tour quarter-final - and his first PDC quarter-final for three years - with a 6-3 defeat of Vincent van der Voort.

Van der Voort led courtesy of a 14-darter before O'Connor took out 81 and 116 to move ahead, with the Dutchman finishing 40 to level.

O'Connor, though, finished double six and then broke with a 14-darter in a high-scoring sixth leg, before a 66 finish moved him 5-2.

Van der Voort took out a 14-darter to hit back, but O'Connor opened the next with two 180s, and though he missed out on a nine-darter he returned to take victory on double eight.

Michael van Gerwen came from 5-3 down to win a superb contest with Jamie Caven and keep alive his hopes of winning a third successive PDC European Tour event with a narrow 6-5 win.

Caven landed a 177 as he took the opening leg, before the pair traded maximums in the second as van Gerwen levelled with a 12-darter, only to see the Derby ace finish 144 to take leg three.

Van Gerwen opened a second successive leg with a 180 in the fourth, only to miss two darts at double 16 as Caven broke on double 12 - but the Dutchman hit back with scores of 177 and 180 in an 11-darter to break back.

The Dutchman then levelled with a sensational ten-darter which included a bounce-out! He opened with a 180 and score 120 and 165 before finishing double 18 to square the game at three-all.

A miss at tops from van Gerwen to move ahead allowed Caven to hit the same bed for a 4-3 lead, and one further missed double in the next gave the Derby ace his chance to break on double eight as he moved 5-3 up.

Van Gerwen broke back on double four and finished 81 for an 11-darter to force a deciding leg, in which he hit his sixth 180 and then posted a 171 before punishing Caven for a miss at tops for a 118 checkout by finishing double 16 for a 13-darter.
