Lewis saw off Robert Thornton in the final at the Barnsley Metrodome to put the gloss on a fine day on the oche, while Darren Johnson would also be celebrating as he landed the first nine-darter of his career on the PDC circuit against Steve Beaton.
There were also shock exits for the 2014 and 2015 World Champions on an afternoon of upsets as Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson were knocked out in round three by Cristo Reyes and Johnny Haines respectively.
Lewis’ route to an eighth Players Championship crown began with narrow victories against Dave Ladley (6-4) and Kevin Thomas (6-5) before he then defeated Lee Palfreyman 6-3 to win his board.
The 30-year-old would then begin to really find his form as he first sealed a whitewash 6-0 win over Justin Pipe and then defeated Michael Smith 6-4 with a 104.89 average to reach the semi-finals.
Another impressive victory would come in the last four as the Stoke ace put a stop to Dave Chisnall’s scintillating recent form, winning 6-3 to set up the final with Thornton.
The Scot's afternoon began with a 6-5 win over Jan Dekker and a 6-4 success against last week’s German Darts Masters quarter-finalist, William O’Connor.
The 47-year-old then won through another tight clash in round three as he defeated Raymond van Barneveld in a deciding leg, just a day after the Dutchman had completed a first Betway Premier League double over Phil Taylor.
But that would be as tough as it got for Thornton as he booked his place in the final with back-to-back 6-1 victories against Steve West and Gerwyn Price and a comfortable 6-2 win against the impressive Kyle Anderson in the semis.
However, it would be Lewis who would maintain his form in the final as he ran out a 6-3 victor to take the £10,000 winner’s cheque and start the weekend’s ProTour treble-header in perfect fashion.
The day also saw the 11th nine-dart finish of 2015 on the PDC circuit landed by Johnson, although his perfect leg came in vain as he eventually lost his first round clash with Steve Beaton.
Emerging ace Kyle Anderson won through to the last four in an impressive day, claiming victory over Australian rival Simon Whitlock in the quarter-finals.
Whitlock was joined in the last eight by Michael Smith, Welshman Gerwyn Price and Austria's Mensur Suljovic, who continued his strong recent form.
The Players Championship action continues tomorrow at the Barnsley Metrodome with Players Championship Four taking place from 12pm (GMT) on Saturday.
