ADRIAN Lewis capped off a brilliant weekend of ProTour action in Barnsley by winning Players Championship Five on a day which saw yet another nine-dart finish.
Lewis beat Brendan Dolan 6-5 in the final at the Barnsley Metrodome on Sunday to take the title, having already won Players Championship Three on Friday and finishing as runner-up to Michael van Gerwen in Saturday’s event.
A brilliant day of darts also saw youngster Benito van de Pas hit the first nine-darter of his career on the PDC circuit as he recorded a perfect leg against Max Hopp.
Jackpot’s day began with back-to-back 6-2 victories against Dave Ladley and Mick Todd, before he then saw off Raymond van Barneveld 6-4 to win his board.
A further two 6-4 victories followed for Lewis against Cristo Reyes and Robert Thornton, both who had enjoyed productive weekends on the oche, as he set up a semi-final clash with the mightily impressive Keegan Brown.
World Youth Champion Brown had already taken the scalps of Stephen Bunting, Jamie Caven and world number one Michael van Gerwen on the day, but could not add Lewis to that list as Jackpot ran out a 6-3 victor to reach the final.
Dolan’s day began with a narrow 6-5 win against Luke Woodhouse before he then won his board with wins against Andy Jenkins (6-2) and Dean Winstanley (6-3).
The Northern Irishman then beat Gerwyn Price 6-4 before thumping World Champion Gary Anderson 6-2 to set up a semi-final clash with Simon Whitlock.
The Wizard had enjoyed a similarly impressive afternoon as he returned to form at the Barnsley Metrodome, but Dolan would prove too strong as he booked his place in the final with a 6-4 victory.
But Dolan would be unable to go one step further as he came up just short in a cagey final, losing in a deciding leg to Lewis who took the £10,000 top prize and added the final gloss to a fine weekend’s work.
