DAVE CHISNALL claimed his first ranking victory for over 18 months by overcoming nine-dart star Ian White 6-1 in Saturday's Player Championship final in Barnsley.
The St Helens man bounced back brilliantly from a double disappointment over the past week - losing out to Joe Murnan in the final of last Sunday's Player Championship and in the Betway Premier League semi-finals to Gary Anderson - by scooping the £10,000 first prize in Players Championship 11.
Chisnall's route to the final saw him record 6-5 victories over Joey Ten Berge and Steve Hine 6-5 in the opening two rounds, and then he went on to see off Andy Hamilton 6-3 in reaching the last 16, where he overcame David Pallett for the loss of just one leg.
In the quarter-finals, Chisnall ended the hopes of in-form Ronnie Baxter - who had already knocked out Phil Taylor and Michael Smith - by averaging 101.39 in his 6-3 victory, and he then went on to defeat Nigel Heydon 6-4 to book his place in the final.
White's route to the final saw the number eight seed hit a perfect nine darts in his 6-3 semi-final victory over Jamie Lewis, while he also overcame Stephen Bunting 6-3 in the quarter-finals and whitewashed Kyle Anderson in the fourth round.
However, White's day would end in defeat as Chisnall took the final's opening five legs in commanding fashion, before completing victory by dropping only one leg with an average of 102.15.
Jamie Lewis and Nigel Heydon’s impressive displays in Barnsley saw both players pocket £2,500 in prize money for reaching the semi-finals, with Bunting, Mark Webster, Jelle Klaasen and Baxter all going away with £2,000 having made the quarter-finals.
Taylor and top seed Adrian Lewis won through to the last 16 before exiting, alongside Australian ace Kyle Anderson, veteran star Terry Jenkins, newcomer Chris Dobey, John Bowles and Holland's Christian Kist.
The PDC ProTour continues on Sunday with Players Championship 12 taking place at Barnsley Metrodome.
