Chisnall Backed For Play-Off Push

Dave Chisnall - Betway Premier League (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

DAVE CHISNALL is aiming to continue his challenge for a Betway Premier League Play-Off place when he faces Gary Anderson in Liverpool on Thursday - having been backed for a return to top form by Peter Wright.

Chisnall ended a run of three straight Premier League defeats when he drew with Wright in Dublin last Thursday - although the 2015 semi-finalist was left to rue allowing a 6-3 lead to slip as the Scot hit back to share the points.

Chisnall, though, produced his best form of the season in Dublin, hitting seven 180s and averaging 106.40, and has been backed by Wright to challenge for a spot in the top four over the next month.

"If Dave can get on a run in the Premier League in the next couple of games he can get in the top four," said the world number three.

"We've got to watch out for him - he's got more talent than I have, natural talent.

"I work on mine for hours and hours because I want to be number one in the world, and I don't know where Chizzy wants to be in his mind but we've got to watch out. He's going to be a dangerous man from now on."

Chisnall will come up against two-time Premier League champion Anderson when he returns to his native Merseyside on Thursday as the tournament visits the Echo Arena.

St Helens-born Chisnall is hoping that the support of the Liverpool crowd can inspire him to a fourth victory of the season.

"It's special, it's probably one of my favourites to go to," he said. "I'll try to do what I did in Dublin and hopefully I get the two points.

"I'm trying and I'll never write off being in the top four, but I've got to put games to bed. If I'm 6-3 up I've got to win them so I'll work on that because I slacked off against Peter.

"My darts were straight, though, and that's what I wanted - not going into the fives and ones. The 180s aren't a problem - I can hit them when I'm playing really bad - but for me it's keeping the dart straight and keeping it fluent.

"I played Michael van Gerwen I was just rushing, and I carried on at my own pace. Where Peter's quite slow I played at his pace and it worked for me.

"I'm feeling great at the moment and playing a lot better than I have done."
