The Queen of the Palace returns to the scene of her history-making exploits when Fallon Sherrock gets her 2021/22 William Hill World Championship campaign underway on Sunday evening.
The trailblazing star takes on Steve Beaton two years and two days on from her iconic victory over Ted Evetts, which saw her become the first woman to win a World Championship match.
Sherrock famously followed that triumph up with a second success, this time defeating 11th seed Mensur Suljovic to reach the last 32.
Despite defeat to Chris Dobey at the third round stage, Sherrock has continued to write her own script with further landmark moments.
Not only did Sherrock reach the final of the Nordic Darts Masters, where she ran Michael van Gerwen close, but also went on to reach the quarter-finals in November's Grand Slam of Darts.
There, she competed well with world number two Peter Wright, narrowly losing out 16-13 with an average of more than 98.
That tournament also saw her surpass Lisa Ashton’s record average for a female player in a televised match, when averaged 101.55 in a 5-0 win over Mike De Decker.
Those runs combined with her success at the Women’s Series, in which she topped the Order of Merit, have given Sherrock the belief that she can repeat or better her Ally Pally feats at this year’s event.
“I’m so excited to play at Ally Pally again and relive all the moments I experienced two years ago,” said Sherrock, who missed out on a return to the £2.5m tournament last year.
“I feel more prepared now because I’ve got used to all the hype. I’m more experienced and can put everything to the back of my mind and focus on my game and what I have to do on stage.
“I think I have got mentally stronger in the last couple of years. I think my game as got better. The last two years with COVID have made me determined not to waste any opportunities I get.
“The Nordic Masters and Grand Slam performances boosted my confidence and made me realise to what level I can compete against. I am very ambitious and I want to get further than I did last time.”
The tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and RTL7, and on PDCTV (excluding UK and Netherlands based subscribers).
