Humphries aiming to continue winning streak after savouring special moment

Luke Humphries is aiming to continue his winning run on the final day of the 2024 Bahrain Darts Masters, after enjoying "a special moment" with his first walk-on as World Champion.

Humphries made his return to competitive action in Thursday's first round in Bahrain, whitewashing qualifier Abdulla Saeed to reach the last eight of the World Series event.

The game saw Humphries introduced by Master of Ceremonies John McDonald as World Champion for the first time - and was a moment for the world number one to relish.

"I was looking forward to that John McDonald moment and I think it got to me a little bit," admitted Humphries afterwards.

"It made me have goosebumps and my heart was racing - I didn't expect it to be like that but it was a different feeling and a moment that I've been looking forward to since I won the World Championship title.

"It was a special moment for me."

Humphries is now aiming to back up his World Championship win - and previous successes in the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals - by extending his winning run on Friday, after taking 20 victories in a row.

"I hope the winning run keeps continuing," he added. "Nobody wants to lose, I don't want to ever lose but there are so many great players in this sport that there will come a time I do lose.

"I'm going to try keep this winning run going as long as possible.

Michael [Smith] did it pretty much the same as me - he won the Grand Slam, then the Worlds and then Bahrain so I'm hoping to emulate him.

"This is a fantastic World Series event, it's a great place to come and it would be a really nice one to put on my CV because the next thing for me is to win a World Series event."

The Bahrain Darts Masters will be broadcast live on PDCTV in all territories other than Germany, Austria & Switzerland (coverage via DAZN).

UK viewers can watch through ITV4 for Friday's final stages from 1630 GMT.
