The line-up for darts’ biggest roadshow has been confirmed, as Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Luke Littler battle it out in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League.
It’s not long now until the aforementioned eight return to the oche to kick off the 2024 Premier League at Cardiff's Utilita Arena on February 1.
Can new world number one Humphries build on a fourth televised title in three months following his maiden World Championship success?
Humphries will make his debut as a fully fledged Premier League player alongside teenage sensation Littler, who will be looking to avenge his defeat to Humphries in January's Alexandra Palace final.
Smith, Aspinall, Price, Cross and Wright will also be eyeing maiden Premier League titles, with all five players having previously finished as a runner-up in the £1m event.
For 2023 runner-up Price, an 11-5 defeat at the hands of Van Gerwen last May will still be fresh in the memory, as he bids to go one better this time around.
However, the history books favour reigning champion Van Gerwen, who has dominated the competition since his victory on debut in 2013.
In his 11 years in the Premier League fold, the Dutch superstar has reached the final on a staggering nine occasions; winning a record-breaking seven titles.
Van Gerwen defeated Price and Joe Cullen to prevail in each of the last two years, and a third consecutive triumph in 2024 would see him scoop a record-extending eighth Premier League crown.
Nevertheless, it promises to be one of the most competitive campaigns in recent memory, as six World Champions are joined by World Matchplay champion Aspinall, and the sport's newest star in Littler.
A peak audience of 3.71 million people tuned into the Battle of the Lukes earlier this month – up 143% on the previous final – and the sport's showpiece event marked the highest ever non-football peak on Sky Sports.
It is a great time to be a darts fan, and if you’d like to get in on the action, then why not book an evening at the Premier League when it visits a city near you?
