Bullseye Maths, an exciting numeracy initiative combining the fun of darts with mathematics education, successfully engaged over 150 children during the Betfred World Matchplay.

Four days of Bullseye Maths events featured special appearances by renowned darts professionals and local sports figures to coincide with the annual World Matchplay at Blackpool's Winter Gardens.

The Bullseye Maths sessions began on Monday July 15 at Stanah Primary School in Blackpool, where 25 children had the exciting opportunity to learn and play alongside professional darts player Dimitri Van den Bergh.

The day was filled with interactive maths challenges and darts activities, designed to enhance mathematical understanding in a fun and engaging way.

On Tuesday, Bullseye Maths visited the Fleetwood Town FC training ground for two sessions, which featured children from ten local schools who were joined by PDC stars Chris Dobey and Rob Cross.

Cross also took on players from Fleetwood Town FC in a special darts challenge to celebrate the club hosting the event in conjunction with the Fleetwood Town Community Trust.

Wednesday saw a further session where 12 children from Shakespeare Primary School visited the iconic Winter Gardens, learning about darts and maths with PDC referee George Noble.

Later that day, 16 children from the Burnley FC Foundation were treated to an engaging Bullseye Maths session with World Champion Luke Humphries - who went on to win the World Matchplay on Sunday.

The week's activities concluded with two sessions on Thursday at Lever House Primary School in Leyland, which was followed by a Staff CPD event.

The week excellently showcased Bullseye Maths' commitment to combining sportsmanship with education whilst still having fun, leaving a smile on the face of everyone involved.

"We had a fantastic four days and this was another wonderful showcase for Bullseye Maths," said Gary Horsley, who delivers the sessions on behalf of Nottingham College's Room 180 Academy.

"Across the range of sessions we were able to engage with children of all ages and this showed the versatility of Bullseye Maths to work across a range of abilities in promoting numeracy.

"The children loved seeing PDC stars in action and loved being part of a maths lesson with a difference!"

In May, a special Bullseye Maths session was held in conjunction with PDC partner Moneybarn and charity National Numeracy to celebrate National Numeracy Day, where Humphries was joined by Luke Littler at The O2.

Bullseye Maths was launched in 2022 and received a Bronze Award at the 2023 Sports Business Awards.

Alongside the in-school sessions, a Bullseye Maths portal features an interactive Mathlete game and downloadable worksheets to promote numeracy around darts.
