Gerwyn Price produced a trio of superb performances to clinch his first nightly win of the 2025 BetMGM Premier League season in Dublin on Thursday.
Following nightly wins for Luke Humphries and Luke Littler in Belfast and Glasgow respectively, Price became the third different winner in as many weeks on a thrilling night at the 3Arena.
The Welshman defeated Littler and Humphries to book his place in the Night Three showpiece, where he ran out a 6-3 winner against Nathan Aspinall to leave the Irish capital with a five-point haul.
Price opened his challenge with a terrific 6-4 success against Littler, averaging 102 to record his fifth consecutive victory over the World Champion.
The 2023 Premier League runner-up then delivered a finishing masterclass to account for Humphries, converting checkouts of 116, 120 and a magical 170 on his way to a 6-3 victory.
This set up a showdown against Aspinall for the nightly title, and Price capped off a memorable night in the Emerald Isle with a 6-3 win over the Stockport star.
Price seized the early initiative by following up an 11-dart hold with a 120 checkout, only for Aspinall to break straight back and fire in an 11-darter of his own to lead 3-2.
However, the 2021 World Champion responded with a four-leg burst to complete the comeback, reeling off four straight legs in 14, 13, 14 and 13 darts to triumph with a 100.57 average.
“It was a great night for me,” reflected Price, who celebrates his first nightly win in the Premier League since April 2023.
“I’m not sure what it is but Luke Littler seems to bring the best out of me, so that was a great game to come through.
“Then to beat the World Champion was big for me; I felt like the crowd got me through that game. It was like I was playing in Cardiff again!
“I started a little bit slowly against Nathan [Aspinall]. I missed a couple of opportunities but I found my feet and I’m really glad to get a vital five points.
“I felt like I was playing well last year, but I was missing chances and getting punished. This year I’m taking my chances, I’m playing really well and the results are coming.”
Aspinall also enjoyed a positive night in Dublin, opening his account in this year’s roadshow with victories over Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen.
The 2020 runner-up punished a profligate display from Cross to secure a hard-fought 6-3 victory in the quarter-finals, before averaging 99 and landing four 180s to topple Van Gerwen by the same scoreline.
Despite a third straight semi-final exit, Van Gerwen remains in third spot following his victory over Chris Dobey in a repeat of January’s World Championship semi-final.
The Dutch superstar produced a clinical display of combination finishing to close out a 6-4 success against the Bedlington star, who landed five maximums in defeat.
In the evening’s other quarter-final, Humphries defeated Stephen Bunting by the same 6-4 scoreline, averaging 103 to condemn the Liverpudlian to a third successive quarter-final exit.
Price's heroics in Dublin lift him to second in the league table - three points adrift of table-topper Humphries - ahead of their quarter-final clash on Night Four in Exeter on Thursday February 27.
Elsewhere in Exeter, Bunting will bid to open his Premier League account against reigning champion Littler, Van Gerwen and Cross collide in the evening’s opener, while Dobey and Aspinall also do battle.
