Gruellich gains maiden Development Tour title in Leicester

Dominik Gruellich (Kieran Cleeves/PDC)

Dominik Gruellich cruised to his first Development Tour Title on Sunday, whitewashing German compatriot Leon Weber 5-0 In the final in Leicester.

The final event of the weekend saw 273 players in action at the Mattioli Arena, and it was Gruellich who secured the £2,500 top prize.

The German, who lost Friday’s Event Seven final to Ryan Branley, changed his fortunes and defeated the 16-year-old 5-2 in the semi-finals en route to winning the first Development Tour title of his career.

Gruellich opened the day with a 4-2 win over Harry Gregory, before posting a massive 106 average to demolish Davie Duval 4-1.

This average was only topped on Sunday by Beau Greaves’ opening-round 4-0 rout of Declan Thorpe, where she averaged upwards of 107.

The 23-year-old then edged past Fabian Tapner 4-3, before he overcame both Viktor Tingstrom and Ronan McDonagh with 4-2 victories and averages above 93.

The German’s remarkable consistency continued, averaging over 90 in seven of his eight matches, including in his 5-2 quarter-final win over Dylan Dowling.

Gruellich then enacted revenge over Branley in the semi-finals, defeating the Event Seven winner 5-2 with an average over 94 to secure his second final in Leicester, where he swept aside Weber 5-0 with a crushing 98 average.

Weber – also runner-up in Saturday's Event Nine against Owen Bates – will have to wait for his first Development Tour title, despite an impressive tournament average of over 92.

Following Events 6-10 in Leicester this weekend, Greaves remains atop the Development Tour Order of Merit with a total of £9,200. Bates sits £2,200 behind her, whilst Gruellich – now on £4,850 – completes the top three.

The 2025 Winmau Development Tour continues with Events 11-15 at Halle 39 in Hildesheim from May 2-4. Entries are available through www.pdcplayers.com.

The top two players from the final 2025 Development Tour Order of Merit will win a PDC Tour Card for 2026-27 and a place in the 2025/26 World Darts Championship.
