Greaves & Bates triumph on Winmau Development Tour, as Manby makes history

Beau Greaves (PDC)

Beau Greaves claimed her second Winmau Development Tour title in as many days to continue her magnificent start to 2025 on a record-breaking day of action in Milton Keynes.

Greaves and Bialecki shared the spoils in Friday's curtain-raising double-header, and the Women's World Matchplay champion secured her second title in as many days at Arena MK on Saturday.

Greaves' latest triumph was preceded by a maiden Development Tour title for Owen Bates, who recorded a 5-2 victory over Charlie Manby in the Event Three showpiece.

Manby later created his own headlines in Event Four, recording a staggering 130.70 average - the highest in Development Tour history - to whitewash Patrik Williams in four straight legs.

However, Bates broke new ground with victory in Event Three, winning through a 346-player field to add a first Development Tour title to the Winmau Challenge Tour crown he secured in August 2023.

Despite surviving a scare in his opening round win over Jannis Barkhausen, Bates then comfortably overcame Ashley Marson, Ieuan Halsall, Patrick McShane and Charlie Large to book his spot in the quarter-finals.

There, he produced a stunning 150 outshot to deny fellow Tour Card Holder Tavis Dudeney in a decider, before converting 108 and 96 checkouts in successive legs to defeat Cam Crabtree 5-3 in the semi-finals.

Bates' precision on the outer ring continued in the Event Three final, and after kicking off proceedings with 115 and 141 finishes, he kept his cool to topple Manby 5-2.

Huddersfield teenager Manby bounced back in some style, rewriting the history books with a devastating four-leg blitz of Williams in Event Four, featuring winning legs of 13, 10, 11 and 12 darts.

The 19-year-old's challenge was curtailed by a 109 average from Crabtree in the last 16, although it was Greaves who came out on top to extend her lead at the top of the Development Tour Order of Merit.

Following early wins over Jenson Walker and Lewis Gurney, Greaves prevailed in deciding-leg ties against Belgium's Lennert Faes and Germany's Dominik Gruellich - overturning a 3-0 deficit against the latter.

She then denied Mitchell Leeming and Liam Maendl-Lawrance to set up a semi-final clash against Danny Jansen, where she avenged her Event Three defeat against the Dutchman by averaging 100.76 in a 5-2 success.

James Beeton awaited Greaves in the Event Four finale, and the Doncaster darter rounded off a terrific campaign with another 5-2 win to celebrate her sixth PDC title of 2025.

Greaves remarkably occupies top spot on the Development Tour, Challenge Tour and Women's Series Order of Merits - the first player in PDC history to achieve the feat.

The 21-year-old clinched a brace of Winmau Challenge Tour titles in Milton Keynes last month, while also winning back-to-back Women's Series crowns in Leicester last weekend.

Greaves will now be aiming to cement top spot on the Development Tour Order of Merit when the opening weekend of action concludes with Event Five on Sunday.

The top two players from the 2025 Development Tour Order of Merit will win a PDC Tour Card for 2026-27 and a place in the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
