GARY ANDERSON produced a remarkable display of darts to defeat James Wade 6-2 in the Players Championship 20 final at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry as the World Champion won the last ProTour event of the year.
In a repeat of the final of the opening Players Championship event of 2015 in Barnsley in March, it was Anderson who again claimed victory to book-end the 20 events this year with his second £10,000 title.
The Scot posted an impressive 101 average as he put a stop to world number seven Wade over eight legs in the decider, which followed up a 105 average he set in the semi-finals as he made light work of seventh seed Dave Chisnall, defeating him by the same scoreline.
It wasn't all plain sailing for Anderson though, as he was made to sweat in the opening two rounds, narrowly edging past both Joey Ten Berge and Nigel Heydon 6-5.
He moved through the gears with a 6-3 win over Alan Norris before defeating two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis by the same score in the last 16 - avenging Saturday's defeat to the Stoke ace - before duly dispatching former Lakeside Champion Stephen Bunting 6-2 in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, Wade made history on his route to the final, as he became only the second player to reach 100 ProTour quarter-finals, a mark of his success in Players Championship events, UK Open Qualifiers and European Tour events over the past decade.
He was ruthless in the opening three rounds, dropping just four legs as he beat Tony Robinson 6-0 before flying past both Colin Lloyd and Nathan Derry with a 6-2 scoreline.
Wade's first major test came in the shape of a 6-4 victory over Phil Taylor in the fourth round, and he then claimed a destructive 6-1 win against Ian White in the quarters.
Jelle Klaasen was the next man to attempt to put a stop to Wade and in turn reach his third Players Championship final of the year, but the Dutchman fell short as Wade won 6-4 before seeing his challenge ended by Anderson.
Elsewhere, there was a strong performance from Robbie Green, who reached the quarter-finals of a Players Championship for the second time this year, before being knocked out by Klaasen.
The in-form Mensur Suljovic was a surprise early exit, as he lost 6-3 to Steve West in the opening round, while world number five Robert Thornton, who won the World Grand Prix earlier this month, also crashed out in the opening round, falling to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Brian Woods.
Following Sunday's event, the top 32 players from the 2015 ProTour Order of Merit will progress to compete in the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals at the Butlins Minehead Resort from November 27-29.
In addition, the ProTour Order of Merit is used to select qualifiers for the William Hill World Darts Championship, with the leading 16 players outside of the world's top 32 and the top four non-qualified European players earning spots at Alexandra Palace for darts' richest event.
