Barney Chasing World Darts Trophy Title

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD is looking to pick up his third big title of 2006 when he joins a number of other PDC stars in the Bavaria World Darts Trophy next week.

The Dutchman will be one of 32 players competing in the tournament in Utrecht, and joins Phil Taylor, Colin Lloyd, Ronnie Baxter and Peter Manley in representing the PDC.

The WDF-ranked event was won in 2004 by van Barneveld before Gary Robson took the title last year with a 6-4 win over Mervyn King.

Van Barneveld was a winner in May's Topic International Darts League before picking up the Budweiser UK Open title the following month.

He has also reached the final of the PartyPoker.net Las Vegas Desert Classic this year, and will face a tough test if he is to add more silverware to his cabinet.

Van Barneveld meets arguably the hottest young talent in the sport, Open Holland winner Michael van Gerwen, in round one on Monday night.

He could then meet defending champion Gary Robson or IDL semi-finalist Simon Whitlock in round two.

The tournament begins on Saturday afternoon with the crunch clash between Lloyd and Manley over the best of five sets.

Taylor faces Denmark's Brian Sorensen, while Baxter will meet Paul Hogan in their first round contest.
