REPORTS and scores from Sunday's games at the Bullit World Darts Trophy as the first round continues in Utrecht.
Andy Hamilton 3-0 Tony O'Shea
Andy Hamilton powered past Tony O'Shea in straight sets to move through to the last 16 of the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
The World Championship semi-finalist looked back to his best with a strong performance,
He quickly settled and broke his opponent's throw in the second leg to create a 2-0 cushion in the first set, with O'Shea responding with back-to-back 14-darters to level.
Hamilton, though, held his nerve to take the deciding leg and move 2-0 up, before coming from 2-1 down to win the second.
He took leg four with a 72 finish on the bull before producing an outstanding 144 checkout to break O'Shea's throw and double his lead.
The pair traded maximums in the third set's opener before Hamilton was again on-target for the bullseye.
O'Shea levelled but a third maximum of the game helped Hamilton win leg three and he hit double 16 for the game in the next to progress.
Jelle Klaasen 3-1 Raymond van Barneveld
Jelle Klaasen condemned Raymond van Barneveld to a first round exit at the Bullit World Darts Trophy for a second successive year with a sensational 3-1 victory.
Van Barneveld was defeated by Michael van Gerwen 12 months ago and again came unstuck against a young Dutchman following Klaasen's classy display.
Klaasen punished missed doubles from the World Champion to take the first set 3-0 against the darts, hitting two maximums and a 96 finish.
Van Barneveld hit straight back by winning the second set without reply, twice breaking Klaasen's throw to square the game.
The third set proved crucial, with van Barneveld opening with a 13-darter before missing three darts at the double in the next as Klaasen levelled and then moved 2-1 up.
Klaasen gave himself a chance to win the set in the next leg, but was off-target on double 14 for a 121 checkout only for van Barneveld to take out a brilliant 161 - the highest in the tournament so far.
However, the roles were reversed in the decider, with both players trading 180s before van Barneveld wasted five darts for the set, and Klaasen stepped in on double ten.
The pair landed further maximums in the opener of the fourth set, with Klaasen taking out 149 for a 12-darter before van Barneveld replied in kind.
A 92 checkout put Klaasen within a leg of victory, and a 120 "Shanghai" finish gave him victory - repeating his 2006 Lakeside triumph over his fellow countryman.
Mark Webster 3-2 Kevin Painter
Mark Webster edged out Kevin Painter in a five-set thriller to set his stall out in the Bullit Darts Trophy with a 3-2 victory.
Webster reached his first major final at the International Darts League in May, and will have high hopes of repeating that feat following a close contest against Painter.
Painter had battled through the preliminary round on Friday to qualify, and continued his good form with some heavy scoring, but some crucial misses cost him dear.
He missed the bullseye for a 170 finish during a tight opening set, with his final dart bouncing out of the bull before Webster took out double ten to level at 2-2, although a 90 checkout from Painter gave him a 1-0 lead.
Webster hit back in style to win the second set 3-2, with a 124 finish accompanied by legs of 13 and 12 darts as he squared the match.
Painter raised his game to win the third without reply, taking out double top, a 114 finish and double four to go 2-1 up.
Webster won the fourth set's opener despite a maximum from Painter, who then hit six perfect darts in leg two and eventually went out in ten on double 18.
Welshman Webster also had six perfect darts in the next by opening with back-to-back 180s, only for his chances of a nine-darter to also slip away before he finished in 11 darts.
He then wrapped up the set with a confident 110 checkout to send the match into a decider.
Painter took the first leg in 14 darts before Webster levelled and then broke the throw on double top with a 13-darter.
He then sealed the win with a 116 finish after Painter missed the bullseye once more, this time for a 164 checkout as his chances slipped away.
Adrian Lewis 3-0 John Walton
Adrian Lewis romped past John Walton to book his place in the second round of the Bullit World Darts Trophy with a straight sets victory.
Lewis dropped just two legs in a comfortable win to set up a clash against fellow young gun Mark Webster in the last 16.
He took the game's opening leg at the second time of asking on double seven after Walton missed three darts to sneak ahead, and then broke the Yorkshireman's throw in leg two on double ten after hitting the first of four 180s.
Walton hit back with a maximum of his own on the way to leg three, but a 13-darter from Lewis in the next gave him the opening set.
Lewis secured another break of throw in the second set's opener after Walton was off-target with three darts, and gave his opponent no chances in taking the next two without reply to double the lead.
He also took the first two legs of the third set before Walton landed double four to stay in the contest in leg three.
But it was brief respite as Lewis landed another maximum in the next leg and then landed double top for the victory.
Scott Waites 3-2 James Wade
Scott Waites edged out James Wade in a five set encounter to move into round two at the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
The Yorkshireman picked up the Dutch Open title earlier this year and continued his good form in the Netherlands with a gutsy comeback against Wade by overturning a 2-1 deficit.
He settled any nerves with a maximum in the opening leg, before coming from 2-1 down to take the first set with a brilliant 161 finish after Wade was off-target on the bullseye.
Wade edged in front by winning the opener to set two, with Waites levelling thanks to a 96 checkout before two double ten finishes gave the Stan James World Matchplay champion the set 3-1.
Wade then moved in front in the game by winning the third set in a deciding leg with a 93 finish on double 18, after taking out 92 earlier in the set.
Waites found another gear to take the first two legs of set four, before a 12-darter against the throw and a double two finish saw Wade level matters.
A 180 from Wade left him 82 for the game, only for Waites to crucially hit double two to square the contest and send the match into a fifth set.
The duo traded further maximums in the opening leg before Waites took out 121 on the bull to break Wade's throw, and he added another 180 in leg two before finishing on double four.
Wade wasted chances at double top and double ten in the next, allowing Waites to wrap up the win with a 67 checkout and book his place in the last 16.
Mervyn King 3-1 Colin Lloyd
Mervyn King powered past Colin Lloyd 3-1 to set up a second round date with Scott Waites at the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
King repeated his success against Lloyd a month ago in the Stan Jams World Matchplay with a strong performance against Lloyd.
He won six of the first seven legs in the match to create a 2-0 lead in sets, with Lloyd left reeling after landing three maximums and being sat on a finish in each leg he lost.
King won the first set 3-1, breaking Lloyd's throw in the opening leg of the game on double 11 and taking out 76 for a 14-darter to take the set.
A 101 finish set him free in the next before he broke Lloyd again in leg two and then finished a 15-darter on the bull to double his lead.
Lloyd responded and won the third set 3-1, but a fine 150 checkout from King in the fourth set's opener saw him regain the momentum.
He hit back-to-back maximums in the next leg before taking out double eight and a 14-darter completed the victory.
