Bullit World Darts Trophy - Wednesday Reports

REPORTS from Wednesday's final four second round games at the Bullit World Darts Trophy in Utrecht, with wins for Mervyn King, Phil Taylor, Mark Webster and Terry Jenkins.

Mervyn King 3-2 Scott Waites
Mervyn King won the first tie-breaker of the Bullit World Darts Trophy to put himself into the last eight of the tournament at the expense of Scott Waites.

King won the first set without reply in a superb start to the match, before Waites came from a leg down in the second to take the set in a decider and level matters - King missing the bullseye for a 170 finish.

The third set also went all the way, with King this time prevailing after all five legs went with the throw.

Yorkshireman Waites kept his hopes alive in style in set four, taking a trio of legs without reply with two 12-darters and one 13-darter to send the match into a decider.

The first four legs of the final set went with the throw to send the game into a tie-break before a break from Waites put him 3-2 up and throwing for the match - only for King to take out 100 to stay in contention.

It was a telling blow, with King taking the next two legs to end the Dutch Open champion's hopes and progress to the quarter-finals.

Phil Taylor 3-1 Roland Scholten
Phil Taylor turned on the style to book his place in the Bullit World Darts Trophy quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Roland Scholten.

Taylor produced the highest average of the tournament to date with 105.7 in a brilliant display to suggest that he is approaching his best once more following a tough summer.

He won the game's opening set 3-1 with an incredible 124.5 average - Scholten needing to take out 160 in leg two to get off the mark.

He also led 2-0 in the second set before Scholten took three successive legs with his first dart at a double to level the game.

Taylor took the third set without reply to restore his lead and then came from behind to wrap up the win.

A crucial 136 finish against the throw in leg three proved telling as Taylor moved into the last eight.

Mark Webster 3-1 Adrian Lewis
Mark Webster ended Adrian Lewis' hopes in the Bullit World Darts Trophy with a 3-1 comeback victory in Utrecht.

Lewis opened the clash of two of darts' top young talents in style, winning the first set 3-1 after taking an early 2-0 lead.

Webster hit back to break Lewis' throw in the second set's opener and also took the next two legs to square the game.

The match tighened further in set three, with both players winning legs against the throw before Webster moved 2-1 up by taking the decider.

Webster then broke again in the first leg of set four and then moved to within a leg of the win by taking the second.

He missed two match darts in the third, but held his throw in leg four to follow up his run to the final of the International Darts League by moving into the last eight.

Terry Jenkins 3-1 Shaun Greatbatch
Terry Jenkins reached the quarter-finals of a fourth successive televised tournament with a 3-1 win over Shaun Greatbatch.

Jenkins won the opening set of the game in a deciding leg and came from 2-0 down to send the next into a fifth leg, although Greatbatch prevailed to square the game.

Jenkins took the third set without reply, and came from behind to win the next in a decider to earn his last eight place.

He now faces Phil Taylor for a place in the semi-finals - having defeated the 13-time World Champion in the Stan James World Matchplay in July.
