Cadogan Wins Purfleet Place

WINSTON CADOGAN won the Carib Caribbean and South American Masters to earn a place in the 2006 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

Cadogan won the weekend's tournament in Bagatelle, which was the finale of the DHL Barbados Darts Festival and watched by former World Champions John Lowe and Eric Bristow, as well as Deta Hedman.

He defeated Anthony Braithwaite 4-1 in the final and will succeed Antony Forde in heading to the Circus Tavern next month.

Cadogan defeated Roger Edwards in a deciding leg in the semi-finals, after his opponent had ended Forde's hopes of a second successive win.

Cadogan also saw off Bajan Ladies Champion Maureen Shepherd and Guyana's Norman Madhoo - who played in the 2003 World Championship.

Andrew Lewis, CEO of Brydens, whose Carib Beer brand sponsored the tournament, said: "We sincerely hope that Winston enjoys the experience of performing on the world stage and does his exceptional talent justice in such a pressure cooker situation.

"I hope that it encourages more people to take up the game, look to improve their own standards and seek to emulate Winston."
