THE boom in crowds for PDC tournaments shows no sign of slowing, with record ticket sales for televised tournaments continuing.
A week ahead of the start of the 2010 Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts, over 80 percent of tickets for the tournament - staged from February-May in arenas across the UK - have now been sold.
The league nights at the SECC in Glasgow and CIA in Cardiff have sold out, while the PDC have also increased the capacity at The O2 in London, the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester and the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle to meet demand from fans eager to see the likes of Phil Taylor and James Wade live.
That includes the potential for a 10,000-plus crowd at The O2 for the opening night of the Premier League Darts, next Thursday in London, with the games including the rematch of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship final between Taylor and Simon Whitlock,
In addition to the record sales for the Premier League Darts, tickets sales for the 2010 World Matchplay are at an unprecedented level.
Over 75 percent of tickets for the World Matchplay have been sold, despite the event, held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from July 17-25, being almost six months away.
"The increasing popularity of PDC darts never fails to surprise me," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"We enjoyed unprecedented sales for the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship and are delighted that this has continued into 2010 for the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts and World Matchplay.
"The appetite from fans around the UK to see the world's top players continues to grow every year, and they will be rewarded royally when our players step onto the oche."
