'Fab Four' Visit Abbey Road

FOUR Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts stars prepared for a 'Hard Day's Night' at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Thursday by recreating The Beatles' famous Abbey Road album cover.

The Abbey Road crossing was famously used on the cover of The Beatles' 1969 album, and Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld, Wayne Mardle and James Wade - the Premier League's current Fab Four - followed in the footsteps of the musical icons by crossing the famous London landmark.

The four will be in action in The Beatles' home city of Liverpool this Thursday, when a PDC record crowd of almost 8,000 will see the 11th league night of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts, live on Sky Sports.

Taylor takes on van Barneveld in a high-profile clash, while Wade and Mardle also face off as the current top four meet each other.

"People think because of my Hawaiian shirts that I'm a Beach Boys fan, but really I love The Beatles," said Mardle. "I've got the Abbey Road album at home and it was brilliant to visit the crossing.

"I'm having a great time in the Premier League at the moment and Liverpool will be a very special night.

"It's a massive crowd and the city loves sport, and hopefully they'll have a night to remember."

Taylor plays Raymond van Barneveld in Liverpool, and is now unbeaten since week four of the competition.

He averaged a Premier League record 111.14 when he defeated van Barneveld 8-3 in Nottingham last month, and is hoping to gain another psychological edge over the Dutchman this week.

"It did [hurt him]," said Taylor, of the Nottingham win. "It's in his mind, but when it's there and you keep getting beaten you need to practice harder and Barney will do that.

"He's a professional and he knows what he's got to do - I'm expecting him to come out playing brilliantly.

"It's going to be buzzing with all those people and I'm excited - you're going to see a belting average, it could be as high as 115.

"I'll get ready for it, and I know Raymond will, and it will be a cracker."

Van Barneveld is hoping to "Get Back" to winning ways, following his shock 8-6 defeat to Peter Manley in Aberdeen last week, and admits he need a win to prevent his campaign sinking like a "Yellow Submarine".

"I was very disappointed last week but that is gone now and I am looking forward," said van Barneveld. "I've worked hard practicing for Phil and I'm always up for playing against him."

Wade currently sits top of the Premier League table during his debut campaign in the tournament - and admits he is loving every minute of his "Magical Mystery Tour".

"It's been fantastic so far," admitted Wade. "When you look at the calibre of players involved in the competition then it would be impossible to predict being top at this stage.

"But all I can do is keep winning and keep enjoying every league night - I love playing against Wayne and it will be special on Thursday in Liverpool."

Watch the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts from the Liverpool Echo Arena, live on Sky Sports One from 7.30pm on Thursday.
