Mark Dudbridge 2-0 Dave Askew (3-0, 3-2)
Sky Bet World Grand Prix First Round

MARK DUDBRIDGE secured a place in the second round of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Dave Askew.

Dudbridge has never cleared the first hurdle at the Citywest Hotel, but never looked back after winning the first three legs to move a set up.

Although Askew took the first leg of the second set and led 2-1 after a maximum checkout of 170, Dudbridge was undeterred and won two staight legs to progress.

"It was particularly good for me because I've lost in the first round for the past two years," said Dudbridge.

"There was a lot of pressure on me tonight and I think I showed my mettle."

Dudbridge faces Kevin Painter in the second round on Thursday, and he said: "We've played each other before on stage and he beat me in the UK Open Regional Final on Sunday, so I'll look to put that right on Thursday."
