Ilagan To Represent Philippines

LOURENCE ILAGAN will represent the Philippines in the 2009 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The 30-year-old from Cainta, Rizal won through the National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP) qualifier to earn his spot at Alexandra Palace in December.

He was unbeaten in nine games in the first group phase and the joint winner in the second group phase with five wins from seven games, before claming overall victory in the knockouts.

Ilagan has previously won the Malacca Open in Malaysia this year and is also Asia's leading soft-tip player, having won the Macau Open, Singapore Open and Japan Open in 2008.

He will be the second player from the Philippines to compete in the World Championship, succeeding Rizal Barellano, who lost out to Miloslav Navratil in last year's preliminary round.

The Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship will be played from December 19-January 4.
