IRISH darts will turn out out in record numbers for the 2008 Sky Poker World Grand Prix this October.
The World Grand Prix has been based at Dublin's Citywest Hotel since 2001, with the seven-day tournament being played in front of record crowds in 2007, which have already been surpassed in pre-sales for this year's event.
Tickets for the £250,000 tournament, being held from October 6-12, have now sold out for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
Tickets remain on sale for the first round, on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and the second round, to be played on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, but have already proven more popular than in 2007.
"The Sky Poker World Grand Prix has grown year on year since 2001 and is established now at the Citywest Hotel," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"We're delighted to see darts fans from Ireland and across the UK travelling to Dublin for this year's tournament and these ticket sales show how this event, with the double-start, has captured the imagination.
"This looks like being the strongest ever field for the World Grand Prix, and fans are obviously responding to this in numbers."
The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit on September 22 will be joined by the next best 12 players from the Players Championship Order of Merit and the top four residents of Ireland or Northern Ireland at the same date to complete the 32-player field.
