Jenkins Inspired By Cricketers!

TERRY JENKINS is hoping that he can be inspired by the England cricket team in Australia this week.

Jenkins is one of a number of top PDC stars travelling to Sydney to take part in the Australian Open Players Championship.

He will also play in a Super Fours team event at the Coogee Bay Hotel ahead of that event, giving him a chance to take on five Australian State teams, a New Zealand side and a DPA Invitational Team.

"We've got the Ashes Series cricket on now in England and like the cricketers I love to whack the Aussies!" said Jenkins.

"The Super Fours will be good fun and it will be interesting to team up with Robert Thornton, Denis Ovens and Mark Webster - who I am usually trying to beat!

"I'm really looking forward to the whole week. I've never been to Australia before and it will be a fantastic experience."

Jenkins warmed up for the visit to Australia by reaching the final of the stanjames.com World Matchplay, where he lost 18-4 to Phil Taylor.

Having overcome the disappointment of defeat in a seventh major final, he is looking to take the £5,000 Australian Open first prize.

"Once I get there and get over the jet-lag, I really feel after the World Matchplay I can win the Australian Open," added Jenkins.

"I was pleased with how I played all week at Blackpool, although it just didn't happen for me in the final and Phil punished me.

"But it will stand me in good stead going to Australia."

Australian darts has grown rapidly in recent years, with stars such as Paul Nicholson, Russell Stewart and New Zealand champion Phillip Hazel joined earlier in 2009 by top Queenslander Simon Whitlock.

"They have some fantastic players there now, people we've seen like Paul Nicholson, Phillip Hazel, Steve Macarthur and now Simon Whitlock has come over too," said Jenkins.

"The circuit's really grown and they'll only get better from playing against top players more regularly."
