THE Professional Darts Corporation send their condolences to the family of John Markovic, who passed away on Saturday following a long illness.
Serbian-born John played an influential role in the formation of the World Darts Council - which is now known as the PDC - back in 1992.
A popular character, he was the manager of Bob Anderson and Ritchie Gardner at the time 14 of the leading players left the BDO.
John worked alongside fellow managers Tommy Cox and Dick Allix to support the players following this move and create the WDC.
"John was a genial character and always immaculately dressed," said Tommy Cox, now the PDC's Tournament Director.
"John was a superb businessman and he understood the business of darts very well.
"He played a major part in the foundation of the PDC and in many ways he was the cement between the bricks - he was just as important as anybody in ensuring the World Darts Council started on a sound footing.
"He always had a smile on his face and quip - he was one of the driest men I've ever met. John was so dapper he reminded me of a 50s film star, until he opened his mouth and spoke with his distinctive accent.
"He will never be forgotten in the folklore of the Professional Darts Corporation."
