Jones Edges Out Jenkins

WAYNE JONES 4-3 ANDY JENKINS
(1-3, 2-3, 3-0, 3-2, 3-2, 1-3, 3-0)

WAYNE JONES knocked number seven seed Andy Jenkins out of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 4-3 victory in Monday's second round.

Jones came through the qualifiers to reach round three last year, and has already equalled that feat after impressive comebacks against James Wade and Jenkins.

As in his first round match, Jones conceded a two-set lead to his opponent before fighting back to take the win.

World number eight Jenkins looked in determined mood, winning the first set 3-1 and hitting a 161 finish on his way to the second set.

Jones found another gear to take three successive sets, winning the third without reply and the next two 3-2, including two ton-plus finishes.

Jenkins won the sixth set to take the game into a decider, but Jones took three straight legs, with a 141 in the second leg knocking the stuffing out of his opponent as he sealed the match.

"I'm very pleased," said Jones. "Once again I started slowly but if I play like that I'm capable of winning a few more games.

"I'm not a very good starter. Once I'm comfortable on the throw it's not too bad, but I missed a lot of doubles and started to throw fast instead of stopping and aiming.

"That cost me a few legs, but overall I can't complain. I could have won the second set, I had shots galore and it was playing on my mind.

"I've got to get better on my finishing but I'm happy with the way I'm going and I'll keep on until somebody beats me - hopefully nobody will!"
