NEW ZEALAND'S Warren Parry has won the Oceanic Masters at Central Coast Leagues Club, defeating Russell Stewart 6-2 to earn a place at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
Parry will become the first Kiwi to grace the Circus Tavern stage, and will follow in the footsteps of previous Oceanic Masters champion Barry Jouannet in heading to Purfleet.
"It's always been a dream of mine," said Parry, a 41-year-old truck driver. "I'm there now, and I won't disappoint."
After the opening two legs of the final went against the throw, Parry took the next four to put himself within touching distance of victory.
Stewart pulled back the seventh leg, but Parry produced a superb 11-dart leg to close out the game and take the title.
He was presented with the trophy by Jouannet, who had won the tournament for the past two years and appeared in the World Championship.
Parry won 5-1 against Russell Homer in his semi-final, and edged out Anthony Fleet in the last eight in the game of the day.
Stewart's semi-final against Shane Tichowitsch went to a deciding leg, while Herbie Nathan, Paul Watson and Richard Tewhero were the other quarter-finalists.
