King: More In The Tank

MERVYN KING believes he can improve on his unbeaten start to the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts.

King has made an exceptional debut in the tournament, taking 8-1 wins over Wayne Mardle and James Wade in his first two games.

The world number six's start has continued the form he showed in the latter part of 2008, where he reached semi-finals at the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and World Championship.

However, he believes he can improve further and is hoping to maintain his run when he meets John Part in Coventry on Thursday.

"I've had two high pressure games and I've produced the goods," said King.

"It's nice to play like that on stage, I do it on the floor regularly and there's no reason that can't carry on.

"Sometimes it doesn't work but it is so far! You're now starting to see the real Mervyn but there's still more in the tank.

"I've been working hard over the last two years and it's now starting to come like it should.

"In my last five years in the BDO I didn't practice; I got stale and bored with the game and didn't bother.

"I didn't go outside the top five in those last five years but it's different here and the standard's a lot higher.

"I have to work hard at my game and it's getting back to how I can play.

"I can play better and hopefully that's going to come through and I'll have 111 averages or even up to 120.

"I've been saying it for two years but now it's starting to come out."
