Manley Happy With Improved Scoring

PETER MANLEY is hoping to use his Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts form to great effect in the forthcoming major events.

Manley missed out on a place in the Premier League play-offs following a defeat to Phil Taylor in Newcastle last week.

He ended sixth in the league table for a second successive year, but was boosted by far superior displays this year.

Manley lifted his overall average from 88.32 in 2007 to 92.11 this year, hitting 456 ton-plus scores this time around as opposed to 351 last year.

Manley's 456 ton-plus scores was the highest in this year's Premier League, and accompanied by three ton-plus averages during the campaign.

"People have seen my darts during the Premier League and I've been hitting big scores, not just relying on my finishing - which at the end of the day has cost me going through," said Manley.

"It's probably been one of my best Premier Leagues and now I just want to work hard for the rest of the year and try to qualify in 2009."

Manley lost 8-1 to Taylor in Newcastle in the final league night, allowing Adrian Lewis to claim the final play-off spot.

However, five draws during the year were accompanied by one 8-6 defeat - to James Wade in week 12 - and three 8-5 losses.

"I can't just blame the last night," said Manley. "I had six chances against James Wade and may also have beaten Adrian in week 13 so it wasn't just the final game.

"The first two legs against Phil were my chance and it didn't go and I was under pressure then throughout the match.

"If I'd got the first two then it could have changed the game and got Phil thinking. But I made hard work of it and caught Phil on one of his best nights."

Manley will next be in action in the PartyPoker.net PDC US Open, with the last 16 onwards screened on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May live on NutsTV
