Part Aces Mason Classic

JOHN PART 4-3 CHRIS MASON
(3-2, 0-3, 1-3, 3-2, 3-2, 1-3, 3-1)

JOHN PART out-gunned Chris Mason 4-3 to reach round three at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship following a classic encounter.

The Canadian, a double World Champion, was forced to show all his class to come from behind and defeat the high-flying Mason.

Irish-based Mason led 2-1 and eventually paid the price for a missed chance to win the fourth set as Part battled back to take victory in the deciding final set.

Part won the opening leg of the match with a 113 finish, and added further checkouts of 167 and 127 during a classic contest, which saw Mason hit 12 maximum 180's.

The Irish-based world number 22 hit back from losing the opening set 3-2 to take six of the next seven legs and move 2-1 up in the game.

He landed a 136 finish during the fourth set, but losing the decider allowed Part to level matters and regain his momentum.

The Canadian then won the fifth set before Mason took the sixth 3-1.

Part, though, hit 11 scores over 100 during the deciding set, finishing the match clinically with double six.

"I wasn't always pleased with how I played tonight," admitted Part. "But I lifted when I had to and I'm glad to still be in the tournament."

Part plays Essex favourite Wayne Mardle in the third round, and he said: "I'm used to having a tough draw.

"In the best years I've had here I've had tough draws, so I'm looking forward to the next game.

"Wayne's playing well and will have a lot of support, but I'm ready to play and can get the best out of myself when I have to."
