REPORTS and reaction from the first four second round games at the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts on Wednesday.

The second round begins with the qualifiers from Groups A-D at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

JELLE KLAASEN 10-9 PAT ORREAL

JELLE KLAASEN edged out Australian Pat Orreal 10-9 to win a place in the quarter-finals of the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts following an epic contest.

The number five seed was pushed all the way by Orreal, who twice came back from two legs down to level the contest.

Orreal came from 4-0 down to win his deciding first round clash 5-4 against Phill Nixon, and showed all those battling qualities and more to go within a whisker of a place in the last eight.

Orreal took the game's opening leg after Klaasen made a wayward start on doubles, although the young Dutchman won the nexy two legs to lead 2-1.

Orreal levelled in leg four, only for an 88 finish on double 12 and a double five checkout to see Klaasen move 4-2 up.

Further misses in the next from Klaasen allowed Orreal to pull back leg seven, before the former World Champion regained a two-leg cushion when the Australian wasted two darts at double top.

Orreal regained his range to level at five-all by taking the next two legs, and then moved 7-6 up by winning two of the next three.

Klaasen levelled on double four before taking out 125 on double top to edge back in front, and then take out 96 on double 18 - with Orreal sat on 50 - to move to a leg away from victory at 9-7.

Orreal took out a pressure 115 on double 19 to cut the deficit, and then finished 95 in the same bed to send the match into a decider.

The duo opened the final leg with 140s, but Klaasen had the edge with some strong scoring and landed double six to progress.

"It was harder than I wanted it to be but Pat played well," said Klaasen. "Every time I missed a double he checked out and he always came back when I got ahead.

"I had a good last leg and I'm glad that I won but it was not how I hoped it would be - I'm happy that I came through and know I have to be better in the quarter-finals."

Orreal said: "It's been a great ride. It's been the experience of a lifetime, fantastic and it's a shame it came to an end in this round.

"He hit his doubles when he needed to and he played very well. The crowd have been great to me and it was fantastic to play in.

"I'll go back to Australia and play in a few tournaments there, but I'm considering moving to England and playing for a few years in the PDC."

KEVIN McDINE 10-7 JAMES WADE

ITV WILDCARD QUALIFIER Kevin McDine dumped PDC world number three James Wade out of the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts with a 10-7 victory at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The 22-year-old Geordie, who now lives in Northamptonshire, produced the display of his life to send the number four seed packing.

McDine averaged almost 106 and took seven of the final eight legs to set up a quarter-final against Jelle Klaasen on Thursday.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said McDine. "I can't believe it, it's the best average I've ever had in a professional game and to do it against James is sensational.

"He's third in the world and one of the best players in the world. Beating him 10-7 is awesome and who knows how far I can go now?

"I've never played so well over 17 legs and hopefully I can keep it up against Jelle."

McDine started excellently, landing a 180 in the opening leg and moving 2-1 up thanks to an 11-darter in leg three.

Wade responded with the tournament's highest checkout of 170 in the fourth, and then went 3-2 up with a 12 darter.

McDine replied with a 106, set up by a fine 177 score, before Wade landed maximums in taking the next three legs for a 6-3 lead.

The youngster, making his first televised appearance in this event, took the tenth leg with a 70 finish on double eight - after Wade missed the bull for a 121 checkout - to pull back to 6-4 at the next break.

He then took the next four legs, including legs of 12, 13 and 14 darts and a 92 finish on the bullseye to take a shock 8-6 lead.

Wade hit back on double top, but McDine lifted his average above 108 in going 9-7 up.

Wade was first to the double in the next, but missed four chances to stay in the game as McDine returned to the oche to hit double eight for victory.

Wade admitted: "He took every chance he had and deserved to win.

"Kevin played better than me on the night, I missed a few silly shots and I'm seething with myself.

"I didn't play as I have been playing and if Kevin carries on like that then he will do very well."

ANDY HAMILTON 10-8 ADRIAN LEWIS

ANDY HAMILTON won the all-Stoke battle against Adrian Lewis 10-8 to move into the quarter-finals of the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts.

The PDC world number six won Group B and continued his impressive start to the competition with a strong performance to edge past Lewis.

The lead changed hands five times during the contest, with Hamilton eventually pulling clear from seven-all to take the win.

He opened the game with a 113 finish on double 18, only for Lewis to hit back and lead 2-1 and 3-2.

Hamilton levelled with a 108 checkout and then went 4-3 up after Lewis missed three darts at a double.

Lewis won three of the next four to take a 6-5 lead, and 180s in successive legs from Hamilton saw him win the next two and edge back in front.

Lewis took out double 16 to level once again, but paid for two misses at tops in the next as Hamilton went 8-7 up, and then took out double 16 to go one leg away from the win.

Lewis landed a 177 score on his way to the next as he stayed in the contest, but Hamilton was stronger in the next and took out double eight for the win.

"There was a lot of pressure out there. It wasn't the best game, it was a fight, and I came out on top.

"I will never give in and we both missed doubles at times. Both of us felt the tension and it meant a lot to us both.

"I did what I needed to do and I know there is more in me yet."

Lewis admitted: "It was just one of those nights and Andy hit the doubles when he had to.

"He finished under pressure and I missed some stupid doubles. It wasn't my best game."

TERRY JENKINS 10-7 RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD

NUMBER ONE SEED Raymond van Barneveld was sent packing from the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts by Terry Jenkins on Wednesday night.

The current PDC World Champion was seen off 10-7 by Jenkins, who produced a scintillating display to take four successive legs for victory.

Jenkins, the number eight seed, will now meet Stoke's Andy Hamilton in the quarter-finals on Friday.

"It was a cracking game," said Jenkins. "Having three good games before put more pressure on us to perform well and we did.

"I've been struggling over the past couple of months but I had a good practice session on Tuesday and that gave me some confidence.

"You have to play well against Raymond, he's a brilliant player and if you don't produce it then you're out of the competition."

Jenkins certainly did that, taking a 3-1 lead in a superb start to the contest.

Van Barneveld hit back to level at five-all as the duo traded maximums for fun in front of a delighted Wolverhampton Civic crowd.

Van Barneveld edged in front at 6-5 and 7-6 before being punished for a missed dart for the bullseye, with Jenkins levelling once more at seven-all.

Two more misses allowed Jenkins to go back ahead, and a 15-darter took him a leg away from the win.

A 145 score left Jenkins with 56, and misses from the World Champion gave the PDC world number four a chance to seal the win, which he did at the first time of asking on double top.
