PDC To Stage Players Championship in Canada

THE PDC will stage its first Pro Tour event in Canada this year with the Kitchener Open on Sunday August 17.

The £20,000 event will count towards the PDC North American Order of Merit, which gives players the opportunity to qualify for the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts and the Ladbrokes.com PDC World Darts Championship.

"North America continues to be an important area for the growth of professional darts and this is another big step for us," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"We now have four PDC Pro Tour events in the USA and Canada, alongside the introduction of the North American Darts Championship this year which will give American and Canadian players a chance to shine.

"To be able to spread into Canada this August is another important step, with the country having staged many ranked events in the past and boasting the current Ladbrokes.com PDC World Champion John Part, and it is now gaining a footprint on the PDC Pro Tour."

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Kitchener Waterloo, with rates of $110 and $120 for rooms, which can be reserved by calling 001 866 375 8240 and quoting "Players Championship Rate".
