GLENN POWER has won the 2007 Australian Grand Prix, with victory for Simon Whitlock in the final tournament not enough to see him win a Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship place.
Whitlock led for much of the AGP season this year, but a brilliant last two months from Power - including his DPA Australian Open victory - saw him take over at the head of the standings.
Whitlock took victory and maximum ranking points in the final event of the year on Sunday, at Pine Rivers in Brisbane, thanks to a 7-2 win over fellow Queenslander Power.
However, Power's run to the final meant that he picked up enough points to remain ahead of Whitlock and claim a place in the World Championship - to follow his appearance in November's PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts.
Rob Modra and Australian Open runner-up Pat Oreal reached the semi-finals.
Players in Australia and New Zealand have a final chance to win a World Championship place at the DPA Oceanic Masters later this month, with the winner joining Power at Alexandra Palace in December.
The Oceanic Masters will be preceded on Friday 26 October by an Australia v New Zealand clash.
Power will head the Australian team, which will be captained by Russell Stewart.
