Alex Roy 2-0 Alan Warriner-Little (3-0, 3-1)
Sky Bet World Grand Prix First Round
ALEX ROY overpowered Alan Warriner-Little 2-0 to secure a place in the second round of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix.
Roy, fresh from a win over Phil Taylor in Sunday's Budweiser UK Open Irish Regional Final, dropped just one leg against last year's losing finalist.
He won the opening set 3-0 and moved to within a leg of the match before newly-married Warriner-Litter hit back.
But Roy was undeterred, landing double two to create a mouth-watering second round meeting with Wayne Mardle.
"I've never beaten Alan on television before so I'm pleased," said Roy. "It makes a change for me to perform up on stage and I just want to prove a point that I can play.
"I've got the beating of everyone if I can perform. This is a hard format but I don't think it would have mattered who I played tonight the way I played.
"I've never played Wayne on television before so it will be one hell of a game. We don't fear each other and it will be great for television.
"He's a great player and he's done well in televised tournaments, but if I can get the breaks maybe this year it'll be different."
