Stan James Players Championships Draws

THE draws for the two Stan James-sponsored Players Championships to be held in Gibraltar on 19 and 20 January.

For the weekend of the Stan James Players Championships, the PDC will trial the policy of seeding the winner of the corresponding event in 2007 as the number one seed for the 2008 event.

Raymond van Barneveld, the winner of Saturday's event in 2007, has not entered this year's events, but Andy Hamilton, the 2007 Sunday winner, will be seeded number one for Sunday's event this year.

This trial will be evaluated by the PDC and PDPA following the weekend's events.

A hundred PDC stars will be joined by players from Gibraltar and Spain, with some entering the event direct and others bidding to come through Friday night's qualifiers to win a place alongside many of the sport's top names.

Ladbrokes.com PDC World Champion John Part returns to action for the first time following his triumph at Alexandra Palace, and the Canadian is joined in travelling to Gibraltar by Gary Mawson.

Dutch duo Jelle Klaasen and Michael van Gerwen have been handed tough assignments in Saturday's Stan James Players Championship, facing Steve Beaton and Alan Tabern respectively in their opening matches.

Carlos Rodriguez, who knocked out Barrie Bates and Kevin Painter on his way to the last 16 last year, opens against Jason Barry and Wes Newton respectively in his bid to emulate that achievement this year.

Barrie Bates has withdrawn from the two tournaments for medical reasons.
