WAYNE MARDLE 5-0 ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE
(3-2, 3-1, 3-0, 3-1, 3-1)
WAYNE MARDLE produced a super-show to romp into the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 5-0 win over Alan Warriner-Little.
The Romford star has been in fine form throughout the tournament, but reached a new high with a brilliant display.
He averaged 94.79 and hit six maximum 180's, as well as missing double 18 to achieve the perfect nine-dart leg.
That came in the second leg of the match, which Mardle went on to lose before winning the set 3-2.
He landed a 101 finish to start the next set and, though Warriner was able to respond with a century checkout, Mardle wasted little time in moving 2-0 up.
He won the next six of the next seven legs to move to within one set of the match, with Warriner-Little forced to hit a 12-dart leg to hit back.
Mardle took the fifth set 3-1 to ensure his third semi-final appearance in as many years.
"I'm very pleased," said Mardle. "What was really satisfying for me was that I don't think I let a leg go.
"There was a scrappy leg at the start of one set, which I normally lose, where I stuck in there and won it.
"I'm proud to be in the semi-finals three years on the trot. I've felt comfortable all week and there's no reason why I can't win it.
"The way I feel about my game, I'll let the other players worry about me.
"For the past year I've been worrying about other people's games, but why should I? I'm world number five, and that's because there are only four people better than me but I've changed my mindset."
