PHIL TAYLOR has set his sights on reclaiming the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship title, following his PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts success.
Taylor's 18-9 win over Terry Jenkins at the Wolverhampton Civic on Sunday earned him back-to-back Grand Slam titles, and also an eighth win in nine televised events he has competed in this year.
However, Taylor has gone two years without the World Championship title - his longest since the formation of the PDC - and he has now set his sights on glory at Alexandra Palace.
"Winning the Grand Slam is massive for me and I'm delighted," said Taylor.
"As the week went on the format got longer, which suited me and also suited Terry, because he's a player over that format who can come back.
"You have to keep hitting him, he's a lot like Andy Hamilton in that he's not beaten until you hit that winning double.
"After what Terry went through beating Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson to reach the final, he'd had two tough rounds and was under a bit of pressure from the start.
"I went out there and noticed he wasn't starting as quickly and wanted to step in straight away. That was my plan.
"My doubles let me a down a little bit, but that was also the case for Terry.
"To miss so many doubles and have a 106 average is good - I think I could have broken the record average in the final and missed it.
"But it's put me in good stead for the World Championship and I'm really up for it.
"For the next month I'll be practising so hard and I've turned down a few things so that I can concentrate solely on the World Championship.
"The World Championship is more important than anything and I'd give every title I have right now to win this again.
"It's not about the money, but the trophy and being World Champion once again."
