NEWCOMER Lindsay Wells won his first DPA tournament with victory in Sunday's Mildura Open.
Wells ended the winning streak of Simon Whitlock and claimed his own $1,000 title in the second of the weekend's double-headers.
Although Whitlock had won Saturday's event, he was a 6-3 semi-final loser to Wells on Sunday,
Wells went on to defeat Rob Modra 7-2 in the final, having earlier overcome Linden Johnson and Phil Bottrell in the knockout phase.
Modra reached the final with a 6-4 win over Bill Keogh, after whitewashing Wayne Atkins in the quarters and winning in a deciding leg against Tim Gatwood at the last 16 stage.
The weekend's two events were the last on the Australian Grand Prix circuit in qualification for the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, with Whitlock winning the AGP Order of Merit and an Alexandra Palace place.
